it surprised jaehyun at how much the doctor could drink. despite his small frame, he was already on his 5th shot and he looked normal as always.

"so, why soju all of a sudden?" taeyong looked up with his bright eyes, making jaehyun caught off guard.

"i don't know, i just needed something to relieve myself from stress i guess," jaehyun downed another shot and scrunched at the burning sensation from the alcohol.

"do you want to talk about? after all, i am your drinking buddy," taeyong smiles a bit at what jaehyun called him.

"you do make the perfect drinking buddy," jaehyun thought to himself, smiling a bit.

"hello, earth to jaehyun?"

taeyong' hand waved in front of his face, interrupting his thoughts.

"you blanked for a sec," taeyong gave a sympathetic smile. "it's fine if you don't want to share, i just know that for me, i usually feel better after talking about it."

jaehyun sits still and when taeyong was about to break the silence again, then he speaks.

"you saw the person i spoke to in town. the person behind him was someone we thought we arrested during a mission a couple weeks back. the police were there to arrest him but when i saw him in town, i knew that something was up."

the doctor just nods along, showing that he was listening to what the captain had to say.

"and when i went to go look at everything closer, i then see someone who i never expected."

"is it the man you were talking to?" the words slipped out before he could even stop them.

jaehyun nods limply.

"he was someone who i really looked up to when starting in the military. when going to west point, he was a senior there and instantly, he became my role model. he was able to get perfect shots every evaluation, he could lift the heaviest weights, and was basically the perfect leader. when i eventually came back to korea and was promoted to being a part of the special forces, we collaborated with the us a lot, and so that senior became close with us."

he takes a sip from his drink before continuing.

"one mission, he and another soldier was captured and held hostage until we could gather enough resources to get them out. but during that mission, private ryan survived but the other didn't. he was shot before he could even enter the helicopter. and it hit my senior really hard, the two had a close bond. afterwards, i haven't been in contact with him."

"and i'm guessing this "private ryan" and senior is the man you were talking to," taeyong finished and the soldier nodded.

"i just... i don't know, i wasn't expecting to see him like this. and now that he's basically an enemy to us... i just can't wrap my head around this," jaehyun buries his head in his arms on the table. taeyong takes note of how trouble he is and doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms around the distressed male. he puts him into a small embrace before talking.

"i can't say that i know how it feels, but i can only imagine hwo distressed and confused you feel. but people change, whether it's for the best or worst. and the only thing that you can do about it to not let it change you as well."

the two stay in that position until jaehyun sits up. he just props up his head on his hand, using his elbow to stablize his arm.

"so, about your little discussion with grandmother," he smirked at how red taeyong blushed.

"you heard that?" the doctor was surprised, as he was so sure that jaehyun would be too busy to hear anything.

"she isn't a very quiet gossiper. especially when she's this excited about something?"

"what's she excited about?"

"i'm sure you heard about johnny and ten getting together with her efforts," jaehyun started but was cut off.

"yeah johnny told me about that," he was blushing so hard.

"then i'm sure you know that she wasn't lying."

jaehyun makes eye contact with taeyong's sparkling eyes and his heart melted at how innocent looked.

"she's right, you are someone special to me. not just as a person i work aside or as someone i have to protect. but you gave me these feelings that i haven't felt from anyone else," he leaned closer to taeyong's face and stopped when their noses were almost touching. but yet, the doctor didn't move his head back.

"what are you trying to say?" tayeong breathed out, nervous from the close proximity between them.

"that you, dr. lee, made me finally experience how it feels to like someon."

sicheng stretched after standing up from crouching down at the file cabinets. his back was feeling stiff from the uncomfortable position. looking around, it felt empty quiet in the medicube, without the usual team of medics and occasional patients occupying it.

a knock was heard from the door and he was met with a familiar face.

"sorry, but do you have anything for this?" yuta holds up his bruised knuckles.

"i told you to not do this anymore," sicheng scolded lightly before opening the door wider. "come on in."

yuta takes a seat, watching how the nurse gracefully walked to the cabinet to take out the first aid box. sicheng then sits on the chair next to him and opens it, taking out ointment and bandages. he then focuses on the patient in front of him.

"what made you go on a frenzy again?" he asks as he spreads the ointment on the other's wounds.

"news about a certain someone," yuta answered shortly and winces at the burning sensation.

humming, sicheng takes the gauze pads and cuts them, before continuing to talk.

"you don't have to answer but how come you don't do this yourself?" he motions to the first aid kit. "i'm sure it's happened to the point you know how to do this yourself?"

at first, the soldier stayed quiet so the nurse assumed he didn't want to answer but before saying anything, he was beat to it.

"you already know about how i was and why this whole thing developed. but the thing is that i didn't trust anyone to do this for me. i had the mindset that asking anyone for help was a sign of weakness and helplessness. on top of that, having people see the after-effects just made them too scared to do anything."

"then does that mean you trust me?" sicheng finished the last of the wrapping and looks up.

"more than that," yuta admits and stands. "thanks for your help."

but before sicheng could say anything, a pair of lips landed on his cheeks and while he was frozen, yuta smiled and walked out, being proud of what he just did.
