Rebound

"Ugh..."

Ryder opened his eyes. The room was dark. It took some time for him to hear the beeping heart monitor from his left side.

"W-What..." he whispered. "I survived..."

He scanned the room and saw the pups huddling together in the corner, sleeping.

"What's this??"

He opened his right hand to see a folded piece of paper. It said

Dear Ryder,

I've seen it. I now know why you pushed me away. I'm sorry that I didn't take the hint. I was blinded by love I've never express it to you because I was afraid of losing you. It was hard, but I've convinced myself to let it go. You don't need to worry about me anymore.

Ryder began to think of the worst case scenario and immediately ripped the IVs from his right arm. He did it with such force that some of his blood splattered, causing him to hiss due to the pain.

He hopped down and ran as fast as he could. Adrenaline rushed through his system, worrying for the worst. He looked into Katie's room, but he didn't find her.

A memory flashback popped up in his mind and he ran towards the door.

Flashback

"Hey wait for me!!" little Katie squealed.

"You can't catch me!!"

"The two are really energetic, aren't they?" Katie's mom giggled.

"You can say that again." Nat smiled as she sipped on her tea.

"How's Decker going?"

The cheerful mood turned into a rather solemn one. Nat took a deep breath and sighed.

"I don't know... He's been disappearing quite a lot... And he began acting like a whole different person... Even leaving Ryder to my care..."

"Ah I see... I know that losing Verdana will scar him and us... But 5 years... I think he needs therapy..."

"I tried to convince him... But he kept rejecting my offer..."

"Well... How about Ryder's therapy?"

"It's been good... Negligence did make him into a bit of an introverted kid, however fortunately he's doing well..."

"I'm glad to hear that." she smiled.

The two enjoyed the view as the cool breeze swept through them.

Meanwhile, the two 5 year old kids tackle each other. Ryder won due to strength and began a tickle fight.

"HEY! HAHAHAHAHA STOP IT!!" Katie laughed and tried ticking him back.

Her plan worked and smirked. "The tables have turned."

She cracked her knuckles and began her revenge plan on Ryder.

The two exploded in a fit of laughter. Katie lied down beside him and stared into the sky.

"The clouds do look funny today." she commented.
