A Hidden Hope

"What's the Last Bastion?" Chase came up to his owner.

"Last Bastion is the name of a bunker that Ryder's mother made in the past. The bunker can be used to refuge the whole city if needed." Mayor Goodway explained. "The bunker's location is classified to protect it from anyone who planned to destroy it." she added

"Only a few people know the exact location of the bunker. I'm one of them" Ryder spoke out. "With Mayor Goodway's permission, we can lead the remaining citizens there."

"We know that this is an urgent situation. So, I'll give you permission to start Operation: Last Bastion." Mayor Goodway nodded to Ryder.

Ryder nodded back and clicked something on his pup pad.

A siren sound emitted right after that. "They should get a message to go to the location of the bunker." Ryder informed. "Robo-Dog, turn 90° towards the cliff wall." He paused." And hit gas." he commanded.

Everyone gasped except for Mayor Goodway, Katie and Chase.

"Hit gas?! We're facing a rock wall!" Marshall pointed out.

"Just wait and see." Chase said confidently.

The Patroller turned and went off. Most were bracing for impact. But what happened next blew them away.

The cliff opened up, revealing a bright lighted tunnel. The tunnel were a 30 seconds drive. At the end of the tunnel, a steel door opened up as they approached it.

They all were in awe. They got distracted as the Patroller halted. One by one went off the vehicle.

"Welcome to Last Bastion." A woman approached them. She was in her 30s but she looked like she's in her mid 20s.

"Thanks for the welcome Nat." Mayor Goodway shook her hand.

"I was expecting more people to come, but I think it just needs time." Nat then turned her head towards Ryder. "And how's my favorite nephew doing?" She approached him and gave him a hug.

"I'm your only nephew, Aunt Nat." Ryder chuckled.

"I know, but still." Nat joked back. "And it looks like you've been taking care of the pups well!" She crouched down and opened her arm, signaling the pups to come over.

"We missed you so much!" Marshall barked.

"It's been so long!" Chase tagged along.

Ryder could only laugh at the pups. It's been 5 years since they saw her anyways.

Then it gloomed on him. He felt emptiness, something that he had felt for years, but he always ignored the feeling. He shook his mind off it and thankfully, a call from his pup pad did the job.

He walked away from the crowd and answered the call. It was from Jake.

"Ryder! Me and Everest need your help! We're trapped in our cabin!" A panicking Jake popped up in the screen.

"And everything is on fire!" Everest's voice was heard in the background.

"We'll be right there!" Ryder replied. "PAW patrol to the PAW Patroller!" he commanded.

Him and the pups ran to the vehicle. It didn't take long for Ryder to assign the tasks to Chase, Skye, and Marshall.

The rest stood back in the bunker while they head towards the mountain. Unknown to the others, Marshall's face was laced in fear and small whimpers sounded, yet quietly as he sped up as fast as he could to save them.

Few moments later, they made it to the mountain. The building was on fire and the fire spread to the nearby trees.

"Marshall, extinguish the fire!" the teen commanded.
