When Rhysand notices my presence in the hallway, he gives me a slight nod, and a breath of relief passes my lips. He did what I requested of him.

When Rhysand passes by me, he gently brushes his hand against my gloved one in a reassuring manner. He must sense my anxiety. Smiling through the veil at the gesture, I walk past him until I make it to the wooden door that leads into my chambers.

When I enter my bedroom, I close and lock the door behind me. I rip my veil off as well as the rest of my clothes and walk into my bathroom. I turn on my shower, set the heat as high as possible, and allow the bathroom to steam with heat. After about ten minutes, I open the cabinet under my sink and grab the glass jar I placed under it a few hours ago. I open the lid and place it on the counter. Holding my palm out, I draw all of the hot steam flowing through my bathroom into the glass jar, sealing the heat inside with the lid. Fire will draw attention in the woods, and I need a way to keep warm. This will help with that without drawing attention. Warm clothes will help block out the cold, but in these woods, I will need more. I'm lucky that I'm leaving at the end of August and not December or something. I wouldn't survive in those woods with that cold. Not even a giant fire would stop the cold from freezing me.

A knock on my door draws my attention. Slightly frantic, I put the jar back into the cabinet under my sink and peek my head out of my bathroom. "Who is it?" I call out. A moment of silence passes before the person on the outside of my door answers. "Headmistress Kirova," the female answers. I swallow and force myself to speak up. "I'm not dressed."

"That's alright. I'll wait out here until you are," she announces. I quickly rush out of my bathroom and grab some clothes, throwing them on. She is allowed to see me unveiled, so I just throw on a pair of black leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. Casting a quick unlocking charm on my door, I move to stand in front of my bed with my hands clasped in front of me. "I'm dressed." A moment later, the door opens, and my headmistress enters.

"Headmistress," I greet, bowing my head. "Kritana," she greets. Her voice doesn't sound angry or too calm, meaning I'm probably not in trouble.

Probably.

"How are you feeling?" she asks. I swallow. "Fine. My magic seems fine as well. I don't even want to know how bad my magic could get if I were to forget to take the pill," I answer. She nods, looking me up and down. "I'm sure that you have noticed your tattoo as well as your eyes." I nod. "My green eyes shocked me a bit. I got up to use the restroom and it was quite dark. I saw two glowing green dots in the mirror. Nearly fell over," I lie. "The tattoo is beautiful though. It just scared me a little."

"Why would it scare you?" she asks, tilting her head. I hold out my hand, palm facing up. "It blinks at me," I tell her. She looks at my hand, her eyebrows raising when she sees the eye blink.
