One's lover never loved her lover, she kept her hand on his heart and the knife hidden between her hips. Keeping her eyes on his, she was not afraid of telling one thousand lies, creating a cloud of spit and stones, falling above her head until her lover drowns, overdoses.She bit on her tongue, processing how to choose her words wisely. Words can cut your throat like a sword, you feel their effect right as soon as blood trails down your neck. All eyes are on you. She walked towards him and brought her lips to his ear, feeling goosebumps on both of their skins, the moon couldn't bear waiting, it watched silently.
"I wish I could tell you, but it takes strength to be a criminal. Not all cowardice are murderers, but wanna know something? The weight of the murder weighs nothing against the weight of wanting someone who's never been yours." she whispered, planted a kiss right below his ear. He stared in awe, an arrow poked his eye, leaving the other wide open. When running with an enemy, keeping one eye closed is not a choice. He gripped her hips, feeling the devil run its tongue down her neck, they're to take the fall together. He killed the space between her bodies, bringing his lips towards her ear this time;
"Words will pour out of your mouth like rain, I hate how indecisive you are. All the excuses, the nervous laughs, the sass. I hate that I can't take my eyes off you. We'll go through this shit together, you and i. We can't lose connection Dune, we can't lose touch. Now I want you to tell me who wouldn't leave you alone, what did you do?"
"Don't try to lure me into untying my tongue. I'd rather cut it off myself, besides, you have to keep your eyes on me. Everyone's watching me, I know everyone by their eyes. The way they look at me tells me more about them, but the thing about your eyes; They speak a language I could never understand. You chose the unknown over hell, I don't want you to blame me for doing what I did."
"What did you do? We're far from Paradise now. You can tell me, when I drove you off to Washington and kissed you near the damned police station, the sirens made us melt into each other with ease. I remember tasting some of the crime on the tip of my tongue, but I am not like you, I don't chase answers. I can have all the answers in front of me, people would get on their knees to tell me."
They looked around them, they were in the middle of a desert. Their shadows knelt and picked a pile of sand and blowing it into air, flashing images of a young couple dancing under the moonlight, fighting with the stars, holding into dear life until they land on a new planet. Dune looked at the sky, their silhouettes waved, letting them know that they're not going to jump off the moon. Her eyes moved to the Twinkie, thinking about the tied young souls and their slumber. No one knows her better than them, but when making sacrifices, she no longer recognized herself nor did they. "is that how you picture us taking over the world? With one kiss at a time? or with pulling the trigger at the same time? or without setting every city on fire without leaving a trace? What are we fighting for Rafe?"
"That's a question you have to ask yourself, I have no regrets. I shot my sister with a smiling heart, you gave me a reason to run away. But if we're fighting for something, we're fighting for our trauma. I ruin everything I touch and you add on to the debris."
"As if I don't ruin everything I touch? I wrapped my arms around you and your father shot you. I wonder what would happen if we went back in time, when we were in Washington, what would have happened if you came along with me? why did you leave me there?"
He didn't want to leave her. He didn't want to leave her because he didn't want anyone else to come after her, no one could take her place. Rafe dropped Dune shared oxygen while running away from the cops, and the flare of her existence stayed with him ever since. He didn't;t have the time to think about her, he was wrapped up in being proud of his pride, something his dad never saw in him. He was in a state of denial, seeing oceans in Ward's eyes that scared him for dear life. If he were to drown, he would drown all alone, it's the loneliness that ate on his brain. Ward convinced him that he was hard to love, that he deserved to be alone, that if he climbed the highest mountains his only option was to jump off the cliff.
"I don't know, but I'm here now. We're here, you're insane just like me. We're like Bonnie and Clyde, I just want you to trust me, to believe in me, to do everything my dad never did in my favour."
"What do you know about Bonnie and Clyde?" laughed Dune dryly, trying to pull away from his grip. She could feel sound waves coming from the Twinkie, the air and the sand were having a love affair right in front of their eyes, and the Pogues were trying to escape.
"I admit that I don't know much, what I know though that there's a knife hiding between your hips, under your dress. What would happen if I tried looking for it?" he murmured, his hand cupped her thigh, pulling it up. The moon clapped its hand excitedly, chanting for them to dance, silence was louder than the sound of their heartbeats, the whimpers and groans of the pogues were symphonies harmonizing the cries of nature, the dead-beat whistle and echoes. Will they take over the world this time? Where were they going to end up? no one knew, not even them. The unknown's just a drawing that was scribbled by two teenagers who couldn't have one another, who couldn't know what love tasted like until they blew one candle off. Love tasted like a piece of heaven in the dark, darkness never lasted long, it had to race with daylight.
She felt the world turn, rolling her eyes back to a point of being stuck under her lids. Digging her nails into his skin, she couldn't cave in. Resistance, she had to break another law of the universe, to resist the irresistible. She breathed in, feeling the tip of the blade hiss against her skin. Do not move. I want you to keep me close to you.
"We'll find home. Just be good until we arrive, stop messing with my head."
"Why won't love me? am I that hard to love?" he whispered, letting go of her. For what its worth, his fingerprints were all over her, that if she died first, they'd know who's the last person who touched her. One imprint of his stays forever, no matter how many many she jumped out of her own skin.
"The thing about Dune, she doesn't believe in love. But it became her religion because of you."
A nameless storm barged in on the moon and the shooting star being parted by a breath. The pogues were dragged on the ground, having sand get into their eyes. This time their lips were sealed shut. They looked at Rafe and Dune, begging please. The nameless storm showed its face after focusing the light on the runaways, his leather jacket merged with the velvet-ness of the night, it's the person who promised Dune that he would take a bullet for her in exchange of the country club.
"Who the fuck are you?" growled Rafe, twisting Dune's arm unconsciously. Dune gasped, her eyes saw a piece of hell. The reason she hated New York when there's everything to love about the city.
"My name is whatever you please, country club king."
