It all started with a literal slap-happy stranger's proposal to a game of Pogs for a chance to win what they thought was a lot of money for child's play. Things escalated when the stranger revealed personal information about them, specifically the huge amount of debt they were in. The stranger then gave them a business card with a phone number, suggesting they could earn billions from playing simple children's games. It sounded too good to be true. Despite knowing better, curiosity and capitalism got them hooked on a line. The next thing they knew, they were transported to a mysterious place they had never seen in their lives, wearing the same tracksuit with the only difference being the number on the front and the back of their teal jackets. It would be difficult to describe everything from the colorful sights to the crowded sounds to this wary feeling of insecurity. At present, there were fifty of them gathered in a barren courtyard, instructed by a voice to the rules of the first game they were about to play.
"Green Light!"
Player 40, South Dakota, became the first person to sprint ahead of her peers, beaming, "This is gonna be easy!"
"Sis! Wait a minute!" Player 39, North Dakota, chased after her.
"Red Light!"
The giant creepy doll placed on the other side of the courtyard turned its head away from the tree to face the players. North Dakota managed to stop on command. South Dakota, on the other hand, failed to stop her momentum. The reckless lass ended up faltering and falling to the ground. Instead of becoming the first player to reach the finish line, she ended up becoming the first player to be eliminated. Before she could rise, a sudden pain struck her chest following the echo of a gunshot.
"Green Light!"
"S-Sis...? Get up. Why aren't you...?" North Dakota fearfully approached his twin's motionless body, unsure like the rest of what just happened. The gunshot was loud and clear. Unfortunately, he didn't make the connection until he saw blood spilling out from his sister's lips. He trembled at the terrible sight. He slowly backed away just as the doll was switching over to red light. The last thing he saw was the doll's emotionless face. The last thing he heard was his number—and a bang. The last thing he felt was the bullet hitting his head. The moment his body collapsed, revealing his cause of death to the other players, all pandemonium broke loose.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Mississippi screamed, her face and front body covered in his blood as well as her own upon getting eliminated.
"Player 20. Eliminated. Player 22. Eliminated. Player 28. Eliminated. Player 31. Eliminated."
"Open up!" South Carolina desperately banged her fist against the locked doors. "Let me out! Stop this game! I don't wanna die here!" Her cries of desperation received nothing but a sniper round to the back of her head. Her body collapsed upon a pile of bodies of other players' failed attempts to exit the game.
