I know that I am way off schedule, but for now it's alright.

It’s fairly late right now. The sky outside is dark, with the only noise being a stray piece of paper that rolls by on the sidewalk. Turning over in my bed I looked towards the clock, 2:24 am it read. I layed back flat on my back and groaned, there was roughly zero way I would be able to go back to sleep at this point.

Instead of laying in bed attempting to let sleep wash over me, I got up and started to head towards the kitchen. My first thought was to make a small snack with some tea, hoping it would help me go to sleep sooner. Spoiler alert, it didn’t. As much as I wanted it to work, I knew it wouldn’t.

There was only one other option I could think of, which was going to go and see Spencer. Him and I have been living down the hall from each other for quite some time now, and it certainly comes in handy when one of us is having a rough night. We’ve been doing this for a while. Around a year ago, he came to my door all teary eyed, in need of someone to talk to. Obviously I let him in, and from there on we have gone to one another's doors searching for help.

I felt kind of bad for going to his door at nearly 3 in the morning, but he had done it to me a million times over, so I guess it wasn’t the end of the world. As I walked down the hallway to his apartment, it was more noisy than I originally thought it would have been. The dogs were barking, music and tvs were turned up as loud as possible, and it was just over all way too loud for 3 in the morning. Spencer’s door was all the way at the other end of the hall, thankfully away from all the noise that’s towards the middle of the hall.

Softly, I knocked on the door hoping that he might come and answer the door. Not to my surprise, he didn’t answer the door. So, I knocked once again to see if he would answer that time. The answer, once again, would be no. Luckily he told me where I could find the spear key, in case I ever had a place to stay, or something like that. Once the lock gave way, I walked into the apartment. It was completely dark, I didn’t bother to turn it on, I just wanted to find Spence.

The first place I looked (since the main room was empty) was his bedroom, which to my surprise was also empty, he was nowhere in sight. The only thing that led me to an idea of where he was, was the fact that the bathroom door had a light on underneath it. I knocked lightly, waiting a few seconds for him to answer, but when there was no answer I knocked again.

“Hey Spence, it’s me y/n. Everything alright? You haven’t answered.” Concern laced my voice.

There was once again no answer to that. So, I repeated the action, and when there was no answer from that I looked around the room to find something to pick the lock with. Laying on his desk was a pin that had yet to be dulled down (unlike the rest), so I used that to pick the lock to the door. When the door yet again gave way, I placed the pin on the nightstand, and then went inside the bathroom

I let out a loud scream the second I walked in. The sink was running slightly, an empty bottle of dilaudid sat on the counter, and Spencer was laid out on the ground passed out barely breathing. I had no idea what to do, so I ended up standing there like a mindless idiot for a moment or two.

Once my brain caught up with what had been going on, I rushed down to Spencer’s side to check how strong his pulse was. His pulse was very faint. The only thing I knew that I should do at this moment was grab a phone to call for an ambulance. My first instinct was to reach around my pocket for my phone, but of course in the one time I needed it, I left it in my apartment. Meaning I needed to find a phone around Spence’s house, which thankfully was easy, because I recall his personal cell being on the nightstand right outside.

My voice was panicked as I spoke on the phone, to be honest I’m shocked that words even ended up coming out of my mouth. The operator on the other side of the line was trying to get me to calm down, but it wasn’t working. The person who was pretty much my best friend was on the verge of death, and there wasn’t anything I could do to stop it from happening.

“Ma’am?” The person on the other side of the line said, for probably the millionth time in a row. I must have been spacing out thinking of all the things we didn’t do together, all the things we have done together, and the things I wish I said. She tried to get me to stay on the line, the operator, but I couldn’t do that.

That’s when I saw it, the thing I had been so focused on stopped. His breathing.

I rushed down to his side and started to perform CPR, hoping that I wouldn’t break his ribs from pushing down on him. “Come on Spencer, stay with me! Please, you can’t leave me!!” I screamed while sobbing. It felt like I repeated those sentences a thousand times, along with the CPR.

The cycle that I was in got me lost completely, because I didn’t hear the door being broken in, and I didn’t hear the EMTs trying to get my attention. I just kept pushing down on Spencer's lungs, sobbing, hoping that he would start breathing again. And at the very last second he did. That’s when two strong hands wrapped around my arms to pull me away from him, allowing the EMTs to take him to the stretcher.

When I turned around I saw Aaron Hotchner. I was completely stund, why was my boss here, then I realized they must have done something to find out where Spencer or I work so they called him. He pulled me into a hug, the absolute last thing I was expecting from him. “He’s gonna be alright, thanks to you.”
