Chapter 19: He knows his Mummy
I turn the page of my book as I lean my head on my hand a small sigh leaving my lips as I read, I thought when my Brother and Ron said they wanted to go to the library I honestly thought it was going to be more fun than it actually was. Hearing soft footsteps I raise my head up seeing Hermione coming over with a huge book in hand.
I internally groan if she thinks that the boys are going to read this she has another thing coming ill be the one made to read it. She thumps it onto the table making Harry jump as he looks up from his own book.
"I had you looking in the wrong section! How could I be so stupid? I checked this out a few weeks ago for a bit of light reading." I look up at Hermione surprised as she flips open the book flicking through the pages.
She made me and Harry go to the restricted section to which we nearly got caught by not only the caretaker Filch but also Professor Quirrell and worse of all Professor Snape and the bloody cat all for her to say she not only sent us to the wrong section but she already had the book!
"This is light?" Ron questions as he gives her a funny look Hermione glares in return "Of course!... Here it is! 'Nicholas Flamel is the only known maker of the Philosopher's Stone" I get up to read the book at a better angle as the boys look at her confused.
"The What?"
"Honestly, don't you two read?" I shake my head knowing my brother doesn't, but he should "The Philosopher's Stone is a legendary substance with astonishing powers. It will turn any metal into pure gold and produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal." I mumble allowed as I read the book.
"Immortal?" Ron confusingly questions.
"It means you will never die" Hermione states trying to clear up Ron's confusion. "I know what it means!".
"The only Stone currently in existence belongs to Mr Nicholas Flamel, the noted alchemist, who last year celebrated his 665th birthday!" I keep reading allowed for the group to hear; I look up confused "665th Birthday Bloody hell".
"That's what Fluffy's guarding on the 3rd floor. That's what's under the trapdoor...the Philosopher's Stone!" Hermione states as she closes the book.
I pull on my jacket pulling it closer to my body as I look out at the grounds the moonlight giving off enough shine to see the outline of objects, looking back at the others I give them a thumbs up for the coast seeming to be clear.
Hermione, Ron, Harry and I sprint off running across the wet ground to Hagrid's hut I steady myself hoping I do not slip on the ground as I follow them to the Giant sweethearts' hut. Harry knocks on the door and Hagrid takes no time to answer it as opens the door wide.
"Hagrid!"
Hagrid clad in oven mitts and an apron looks down at us startled that the four of us are on his doorstep not expecting us at all. "Oh, hello. Sorry, don't wish to be rude, but I'm in no fit state to entertain today" he looks apologetic as he pulls on his door to close it unlike him to be like this.
"We know about the Philosopher's Stone!" We magically all say together gaining Hagrids attention as he opens up the door again looking at the four of us "Oh". He moves away from the door allowing all of us to enter as he retreats back into his hut.
"We think Snape's trying to steal it." I rush out as I take a seat next to Hermione on the big chair next to the fireplace trying to gain some heat. "Snape? Blimey, Willow, you're not still on about him, are you?"
"Hagrid, we know he's after the Stone. We just don't know why." Harry states looking up at Hagrid as he and Ron take a seat on the bench "Snape is one of the teachers protecting the Stone! He's not about to steal it!" I turn to my brother confused that does not make sense why would he be protecting it but get a massive mark from fluffy on his leg.
"What?"
"You heard. Right. Come on, now, I'm a bit preoccupied today." Trying to coax us out of his hut definitely unlike him being like this.
"Wait a minute" Harry states trying to stop Hagrid from not answering the questions we have. I look over to Ron and a big black boarhound, to which he only now seems to notice is sitting next to him as the dog starts to sniff Ron. "One of the teachers?".
"Of course! There are other things defending the Stone, aren't there? Spells, enchantments" Hermione questions as I watch the dog taking an interest in Ron.
"That's right. Waste of bloody time, if you ask me."
Ron shuffles away apparently not liking the attention that he is gaining from the pet. "Ain't no one gonna get past Fluffy. Hehe, not a soul knows how. Except for me and Dumbledore. I shouldn't have told you that. I shouldn't have told you that." Hagrid mutters as he turns away from us looking elsewhere.
I'm guessing Snape would have to try and find a massive bone for each of Fluffy's heads. The cauldron that is hanging over the fire begins to rattle gaining all of our attention. "Oh!" Hagrid hurries over and grabs something out of it with his oven mitts "Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!" Getting up out of our seats we all follow Hagrid as he puts the thing... an egg, on the table.
"Uh, Hagrid, what exactly is that?" I question never seeing an egg this big before "That? It's a ... its um..." Hagrid trails off not really sure how to explain it to us.
"I know what that is! But Hagrid, how did you get one?" Ron questions amazed as he looks at the egg sitting on the table astonished.
"I won it. Off a stranger, I met down at a pub. Seemed quite glad to be rid of it, as a matter of fact," well that does not sound worrying at all. The egg rattles and cracks pieces start to fly off as a baby dragon emerges from the cracked shell. It squeaks and slips on an egg piece as it starts to climb out from the gooey birth home of an egg.
"Is that...a dragon?" I look from Hermione to Hagrid back to the new baby dragon that had just hatched.
"That's not just a dragon. That's a Norwegian Ridgeback! My brother Charlie works with these in Romania" Ron Watches the dragon as he moves around the dining table.
"Isn't he beautiful? Oh. Bless him, look. He knows his mummy. Hehe. Hallo, Norbert." I smile watching the new baby dragon welcomed to the world the dragon squeaks as it looks at Hagrid liking the new name 'Mummy' had given him.
"Norbert?" I look to my brother seeming like he didn't get the idea of giving a baby dragon a name.
"Yeah, well, he's got to have a name, doesn't he?" Hagrid smiles looking down at his new pet baby dragon while Ron laughs in the corner.
"Don't you, Norbert?" Hagrid raises his fingers back and forth across Norbert's chin but Norbert backs away, hiccups and blows a fireball of fire into Hagrid's beard to which he acts quick to try and put it out as he pats it with his oven mitts to extinguish the small flame.
"Ohh! Oooh, ooh, ooh, well...he'll have to be trained up a bit, of course." Norbert hiccups as he looks around an innocent look on his face. Noticing Hagrid's gaze I follow it to the window as there seems to be someone looking in the window. "Who's that?" The person scampers away but even I know that slick back blonde hair and a green robe always screams trouble.
"Malfoy" Harry states as the dread starts to form on Hagrid's face.
"Oh, Dear".
This won't be good.
