Chapter 21: You-Know-Who's out there
I follow behind both my brother Harry and Draco while Fang, Hagrid's dog leads the way, a small amount of light illuminates from the lamp that Draco holds other than that and the light illuminating from the moon it isn't that easy to see where we are going.
"You wait till my father hears about this. This is servant's stuff" I puff some of the hair out of my face as I look out into the dark forest trying to see if I can make anything out other than the outline of trees.
This servant stuff we are apparently doing it would not surprise me if this was what back home Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon would make me and Harry do, this type of thing is punishment exactly what they would want for us considering in their eye's we are the servants, a burden to them.
"If I didn't know better, Draco, I'd say you were scared" a smirk tugs at my lips as Harry tries and taunts Draco for being scared. "Scared, Potter?!" he scoffs looking at my brother with an unimpressed look.
A howl like before echo's through the trees, which makes my hair on the back of my neck stand up "Did you hear that?" I question as both Harry and Draco turn my way. Draco looks off into the distance behind me holding out the lamp to see more distance while Harry tries and gives a comforting smile which didn't help as much as he was trying to. He definitely heard it also.
Seeming pleased that the thing that made the howl was not following us Draco turns on his heels walking off in front "Come on, Fang" he calls out to the dog as he goes to walk by his side.
Harry swings his arm around my shoulder as he pulls me along so we stay close to Draco who is muttering under his breath about not being Scared.
It feels like we had been walking forever and I'm not even sure that I could work out which way was back considering it feels like we had been walking in circles.
We start to walk slighting downhill to a flat patch of ground which was lucky considering we have been tracking across tree roots and rocks it was hard not to make a fool of myself and trip over. There were many chances. So many chances.
Fang suddenly stops out in front a loud growl erupting from his doggy lips as he directs his attention to the distance ahead. "What is it, Fang?" I question as I follow the direction that Fang was looking towards, I halt in my tracks as up ahead, a cloaked figure is crouched over a dead unicorn, it was drinking its blood.
I gulp hoping that the hooded figure didn't hear us coming as I take a step back but luck was not on our side as Fang erupts in another growl gaining the attention of the hooded figure. The hooded figure raises its head, silver blood dripping from its mouth as he looks in our direction.
A gasp leaves my lips as a burn like feeling flares up on my collar bone exactly where my scar is as I place my hand across it seeing if placing pressure would help the pain at all. I glance over to my brother also seeing him reach up for the scar that lays on his forehead covered by his hair as his is probably having the same effect as what my own is having.
A flash of pure fear appears across Draco's face as he turns and runs away with Fang in toll leaving both myself and my brother behind in pain as in the distance Draco yells for help.
now whos the bloody coward.
The figure slides over the unicorn and rises to its feet making an advance towards Harry and I, we start to back away and the heel of my shoe catches a risen tree root sending my butt to collide with the hard muddy ground. A grip forms around my body as Harry tries to pick me up and pull us further away from the hooded figure.
Suddenly, the sound of hoof beating across the ground grabs our attention as a figure leaps over both my and my brothers head and lands near the cloaked figure. My eyes widen at the figure that came to our rescue standing tall on all four was a silver centaur It rears his hooves at the dark figure making the cloaked figure retreat, flying away.
"Harry, Willow Potter, you must leave. You are known to many creatures here. The forest is not safe at this time. Especially for you." Harrys grip tightens as he pulls me to my feet as I try and steady my balance and avoid any other tree roots.
"But what was that thing you saved us from?" Harry questions as I brush myself down of the mud that now covers my arse. "A monstrous creature. It is a terrible crime to slay a unicorn. Drinking the blood of a unicorn will keep you alive even if you are an inch from death. But at a terrible price. You have slain something so pure that the moment the blood touches your lips, you will have a half-life. A cursed life." the silver centaur states looking down at us after gazing at the poor creature murdered for its precious blood.
"But who would choose such a life?" I question looking from the centaur to the poor unicorn that had lost his life. "Can you think of no one?" he questions as I look to Harry knowing one person that would be so desperate to do it.
"Do you mean to say...that that thing that killed the unicorn...that was drinking its blood...that was Voldemort?" Harry questions the silver centaur as he makes an advance towards the both of us his tall structure towering over us.
"Do you know what is hidden in the school at this very moment?" he questions as he lowers his head to look at us eyes level "The Philosopher's Stone" I whisper just loud enough for them to hear.
Suddenly, a dog bark gains my attention as I turn around to see Hagrid, Hermione, Ron and Draco appear with Fang running in front. where were they a few minutes ago when black coat fly thing was here that would have been the best time to turn up.
"Willow! Harry!" Hermione shouts as I feel my shoulders drop relaxing knowing that we are back together as a big group. Luckily Draco managed to find them and bring them back.
"Hello there, Firenze. I see you've met our young Potter's. You all right there, Harry?" to which Harry nods in reply Hagrid redirects his gaze towards me next "Willow?" he questions as I also nod my head thanks to this silver centaur Firenze that came to our rescue.
"Harry, Willow Potter, this is where I leave you. You are safe now. Good luck." Firenze states nodding towards us as I smile up at him in thanks he was quick to turn walking past the dead unicorn on the floor before galloping off deeper into the dark forest.
A sigh leaves my lips thankful that Hagrid suggest that we head back to the school which we was all quick to agree to as he leads the five of us back to our common rooms.
I take a seat next to Ron on the couch while Hermione takes the single chair and Harry stands his back to the fire as its flames dance above the burning logs.
"You mean, You-Know-Who's out there, right now, in the forest?" I nod my head as I hug a pillow close to my chest watching the flames of the fire trying to forget the attack that happened not even an hour ago in the forest.
"But he's weak. He's living off the unicorns. Don't you see? We had it wrong. Snape doesn't want the stone for himself, he wants the stone for Voldemort. With the Elixir of Life, Voldemort will be strong again. He'll, He'll come back." He states taking a seat in the left over spare seat in the room by the fire.
"But if he comes back, you don't think he'll try to kill you two, do you?" I feel the colour drain from my face as Ron Questions Voldemort's actions he may do.
"I think if he'd had the chance, he might have tried to kill us tonight." Harry says casually as Ron beside me gulps I don't see what he has to be worried about he isn't the one that You know who is after.
"And to think, I've been worrying about my Potions final!" I lean my head back on the back of the couch also forgetting we have that potions final soon too. "Hang on a minute. We're forgetting one thing. Who's the one wizard Voldemort always feared?" I lift my head thinking about what Hermione had just questioned.
The boys shrug to the question as I look to her with a smile on my face "Dumbledore!" she nods in agreement copying my own grin "As long as Dumbledore's around, you're safe. As long as Dumbledore's around, you can't be touched". My grip loosens from around the cushion as I glance towards my brother surprised he was already looking my way.
We are safe as long as Dumbledore is around.
