Chapter 2: Probably thinking oh food!
We have been walking around the zoo now for around half an hour and this adventure is already killing me at least Harry is with me this time, Dudley's last birthday Harry did not come him being magically ill and all he luckily got to stay at home and I got to suffer on my own.
Walking behind the 'happy' family I huff watching as they talk amongst themselves enjoying the Zoo while I, on the other hand, watch everything I do know if I slip up I'm going to get in so much trouble when we get back. I freeze in my tracks as I look up at the sign of the building they have just walked into. Reptile House in bold letter hang above the building door, a shiver runs down my back at the thought of snakes. Long bodies, no legs, and their skin covered in scales, no thank you.
Harry notices my halt in movement not wanting to enter the dreaded building, its a rational fear to be scared of snakes and i don't really want to face them even if there is a glass between me and them. Harry slings his arm around my shoulder coaxing me inside, pulling my body close to his own as we slowly make our way inside.
As long as he does not do what happened last time we both came to the zoo we should be ok. I was traumatised for weeks.
The Dursley three-stop outside a large Boa Constrictors exhibit, a large pit starts to form in my stomach as Harry casually strolls the both of us over to the large cage for the creature.
"Make it Move" Dudley snaps as he watches the sleeping reptile peacefully resting in its safe enclosed enclosure. Like the lapdog, my uncle is for his son he lifts his hand up to the glass of the snake's cage and uses his knuckles to bang on the glass.
"move" uncle Vernon snaps looking at the snake wanting to make his son happy "Move!" he tries again his voice a bit louder than before. Dudley like his dad raises his hands to the glass and furiously bangs on it startled I look around as no one seems to be paying this scene any attention.
Talk about animal cruelty the poor reptile is trying to sleep I mean I hate the creatures but at least I know that it is cruel to bang on the enclosure especially as it is asleep.
"MOVE!" Dudley sneers at the glass the snake still not moving for the birthday boy, awe poor Dudley not getting what he's wanting for once. "He's asleep!" Harry states as he looks to the snake not leaving my side thank god.
"He's boring" Dudley grunts as he turns on his heels walking away, retreating to another enclosure to pester another animal. His parents follow him like lost puppies, it makes me wonder how they managed before he was born no one to boss them around.
I sigh in relief as I also go to move far away from the snake's enclosure but that dream was short-lived as Harry decides to pull us closer to the glass cage, my eyes widen as i stare at the snake. At least it is asleep.
"Sorry about him. He does not understand what it is like, lying there day after day, having people pressing their faces in on you" Harry mutters to the snake.
I feel myself go rigid as the snake lifts his head up slightly to look up at the both of us blinking probably thinking feeding time. "Can you.... hear me?" he questions the snake as I turn to my brother giving a look wondering if he has gone mad "I can hear you and you sound insane thinking the snake can understand you" I mumble looking back to the reptile creature.
The snake nods his head as I feel Harry's arm drop from my shoulder as he leans on the bar to watch the snake. "It's just..... I've never talked to a snake before. Do you... I mean... do you talk to people often.
I knew i wasn't going to like the zoo today why is my brother talking to one of my biggest fears alive he's insane. The snake again nods his head as a smile appears on Harry's face, I've never seen him smile like that before, well at anything other than when he talks to me.
