Chapter 22: Why didn't I see it before?
Strolling across the pebbled walkway the four of us make our way towards the outer gates, I sigh aloud as the wind starts to pick up a little blowing my hair in all directions across my face. Loosening my tie from around my neck, I slide it up pushing my hair back using my Gryffindor tie as a headband to keep the loose strands away as I walk alongside the others.
"I've always heard Hogwarts' end of the year exams were frightful, but I found that rather enjoyable." I glance toward Hermione beside me as a burning sensation starts to erupt from my scar trying to ignore it I just rub it as I shake my head at my friend.
How could she enjoy that it was one of the most stressful things in my life.
"Speak for Yourself. All right there Harry?" Ron questions as I look in my brother's direction as he also rubs at the scar on his forehead seeming that it is also giving him the same trouble as my own.
"My scar... It keeps burning." it seemed to of started through the exam luckily for me it was a barrable one at least it didn't hurt to much that I could focus my attention on the exams but now it seems to of gotten stronger.
"It's happened before." Hermione questions as I shake my head "Not like this, not for this long" I mumble as I try and not focus on it "Perhaps you should see the nurse" Ron suggests to the both of us. I really don't see what a nurse could do about it shed think we are mad for going to her with a pain where our scars are and had since we were babies.
"I think it's a warning. It means dangers coming. Uhh!" I look to my twin Brother considering what he had said a warning? A warning to what though. I groan slightly rubbing my collar bone in agony as it starts to flare up once again.
As we come out of the gate I look down the hill towards Hagrid who sits across the field, at his hut sad and alone missing Norbert his pet... Dragon "Oh" I mumble looking to Harry as he also glances my way "Of course". We both pick up our pace as Hermione and Ron do a slight jog to catch up with our faster walk outburst.
"What is it?" Hermione questions. I glance her way before looking where I was walking not wanting to slip in the mud "Don't you think it's a bit odd that what Hagrid wants more than anything is a dragon, and a stranger shows up and just happens to have one?" Harry questions as we start to get closer to Hagrid's who is playing his flute outside his hut.
"I mean, how many people wander around with dragon eggs in their pockets?" I state as a similar look is shared between Ron and Hermione them finally getting to the same conclusion that both me and my twin are on.
Why didn't I see it before?
"Hagrid, who gave you the dragon egg?" Hagrid stops playing as he looks down at the four of us I hunch over slightly catching my breath I really need to get back into some exercise "What did he look like?" I breathe out straightening myself out after catching my breath the others still slightly breathing harder than normal.
"I don't know. I never saw his face. He kept his hood up." Hagrid shrugs off like it would be normal for a stranger to do "The stranger, though, you and he must have talked." Harry questions as Hagrid leans back in his seat.
"Well, he wanted to know what sort of creatures I looked after. I told him. I said, 'After Fluffy, a dragon's gonna be no problem." He rests his flute in his lap as he adjusts himself to look more in our direction.
"And did he seem interested in Fluffy?" I ask as Hagrid only looks to us confused "Well, of course, he was interested in Fluffy! How often do you come across a three-headed dog, even if you're in the trade? But I told him. I said, 'The trick with any beast is to know how to calm him. Take Fluffy, for example, just play him a bit of music and he falls straight to sleep'."
My eyes widen as I look to the other three that stand with me in front of the giant sweetheart that has a habit of saying things he maybe should not of said.
"I shouldn't have told you that" he mumbles as all four of us instantly turn on our heels and run off the way we had just come from back up the massive hill. "Where you going?! Wait!" Hagrid shouts after us but we don't dare turn back this information has to be heard by someone high up the school's safety is in jeopardy.
Running through the halls of Hogwarts the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry we all run towards McGonagall's classroom pushing open the doors it swings and bangs on the wall gaining the attention of Professor McGonagall as she sits at her desk marking some work. Running up the aisles I dodge desks and chairs and stop directly in front of her desk my breathing once again heavy from the running we had to do and up a hill as well I think I managed that well.
"We have to see Professor Dumbledore, immediately!" Harry states seeing as he was less out of breath than the rest of us but none of us compared to Ron as he hunches over trying to steady his breathing.
"I'm afraid Professor Dumbledore is not here. He received an urgent owl from the Ministry of Magic and left immediately for London." McGonagall places her quill on the desk as my eyes widen "He's gone?! Now? But this is important" I rush out placing my hands on the table.
"It's about... the Philosopher's Stone" Harry states urgently knowing if Dumbledore is not here who is going to protect the stone against the one who shall not be named.
McGonagall looks down at us in shock "How do you know"
"Someone's going to try and steal it" she looks to us all not really sure how we even knew about the stone let alone worked out it was going to be in threat of being taken.
"I don't know how you four found out about the stone, but I can assure you it is perfectly well-protected. Now would you go back to your dormitories? Quietly" she dismisses us picking up her quill probably to get back to marking.
My shoulders drop as we turn and head out of the classroom doing as we are told and heading towards the dormitories. "As long as Dumbledore's around, you're safe. As long as Dumbledore's around, you can't be touched that lasted long we are so gonna die" I mumble mainly to myself as Harry pulls us to one side of in the Hallway as others students of the school walk past us knowing nothing of what could possibly be happening and affecting the school. "That was no stranger Hagrid met in the village. It was Snape, which means he knows how to get past Fluffy".
"And with Dumbledore gone" a chill runs up my spine as I look behind me to see Professor Snape suddenly standing behind us I gulp as he sneers looking down upon us.
"Good afternoon. Now, what would four young Gryffindors such as yourselves be doing inside on a day like this?" He questions before looking towards Hermione who stutters at her words "Uh...we were just..."
"You want to be careful. People will think you're-" I narrow my gaze at Snape as my brother just plainly glares up at our teacher who looks down at us a little bit of surprise hiding in his eyes "–up to something".
He gives us all one last look before turning around and heads down the empty classroom probably going to his classroom or to his room to plot his next moves.
"Now what do we do?" Hermione mumbles looking between the four of us "We go down the trapdoor." Harry states as I look at the three of them thinking the same thing as Harry.
"We go Tonight!"
