a/n: forgot to post this so here you go:) hope you enjoy

Jonah was fast asleep by 8pm. His body was swaddled in your blanket like a baby and his head rested upon one of your fluffy throw pillows on your lap. A book was held between your fingers, open to just the first page since Jonah's sweet sleeping figure had caught your attention moments after you had both situated yourselves on the bed.

With some cups of hot chocolate on coasters beside you and some motivation to at least read a couple chapters, the two of you took turns reading to each other. As the night progressed, your soothing voices flowing into each other's ears sent ripples after ripples of sleepiness to the both of you. Jonah was first to go to sleep, but you fought the urge to do the same.

Although you had wanted the pleasure of reading him to sleep, the effortless action of him dozing off in your arms - his mind and body at total relaxation - plastered a smile to your face. Even with his cute head against your lap and your left hand running through his chocolate-coloured hair, you still wanted to get through these chapters. The dim light trickling through the small gap of your door was the only thing keeping you going at this point.

Your hand ached, fingertips nearly turning white from your tight grasp of the book. You hadn't flicked to the next page in over an hour, and you were starting to think now wasn't the right time to even be reading anymore. Nights of peace like this were rare between you two and appreciating them to the fullest was always your first concern. You bent over slightly to chuck the book away, wincing at the loud thump of it tumbling to the floor. Looking back at Jonah, you realised he had shuffled down a bit, his hand now snaking out from the tightly wrapped blanket so it could be held by you.

You shifted back against the bed, now lower than you were before to have his head on your chest. "Y/n," Jonah spoke your name so quietly, and in fear that you woke him up, you shot your gaze to him.

"What?"

"Hold my hand." He answered plainly, twitching his fingers with the desire to feel your loving touch. You let out a breathy laugh, instantly intertwining your fingers together. Next, like the silly Jonah he is, he wriggled haphazardly under the blanket, trying to get a hold of one side.

"What's wrong?" You whispered, forehead creasing as you looked at him. He didn't reply, merely draping the rest of the blanket over you. "Let's go to sleep." He drawled, smoothing out his hair before resting back on your chest.

"Okay," you said between giggles. Your heart swelled with great tenderness; the skip of a beat almost felt by Jonah as your heartbeat was right at his ear. In a mess of limbs of blankets, light faded as you let your eyelids drop. You swear Jonah had the biggest smile on his face when he felt you fall asleep against him.
