a/n: I'm not sure if many people will enjoy this one but if you did, let me know! This is just basically about this overwhelming feeling I get when there's a lot of noise/people around me...so...I decided to write an imagine about it, sorry if it's a little messy
Summary: you are at a house party and suddenly get overwhelmed, Daniel notices and takes you somewhere quiet.
The expanse was illuminated by the encompassing lights around the house. You sat on the couch in the living room, the yellow light of the lamp on the side table flitting across your skin as you leaned back against the cushions trying to find some sort of comfort in this place of strangeness. Though Daniel's house was always one of peace and love, you couldn't help but close yourself off under the unusual loudness that had devoured the room and the strong smell of alcohol strangling the air. It was all too much.
You looked around wonderingly for Daniel from your spot on the sofa. Over your shoulder towards the kitchen. His bedroom. The bathroom. But you couldn't find him. The atmosphere seemed to get louder with every passing second, the intoxicating smell intensifying with every sip or chug of a drink you witnessed around the place.
Daniel had left his sunglasses tucked in his curls on his head while he sat by the edge of the pool, his feet dipping into the surface of the water. The bright pool water reflected the light ribbon of sweat the balmy summer evening had fostered on his bare chest and abs. The sound of his all too familiar giggle trickled into your ears. Then came his voice, his gentle tone dipping into your hazy mind. You tried to grasp onto it for just another sense of solace to ease the tension. No one else seemed to feel it but yourself. That particularly unbearable rubber band around your head. Tightening and pulsating.
He hopped out to walk towards the glass paned door to go and find you, droplets of water dribbling behind his footsteps. Your gaze found him sooner or later, and in the small moment of him noticing you, you puckered your brows in hope he'd get just a little hint of your discomfort in the busy house.
Any quiet area seemed so far away now that the Seavey's house was teeming with people, and the thought of wading through a sea of drunk strangers to get just a fraction of personal space felt worse than keeping your spot on the couch. There was something about the pounding vibrations of the music, as if it were lava scorching right against your skin or nails scratching hard against a chalkboard. You suffered through your discomfort in silence. Out of habit, your head had found its place hidden in your lap, hands pressed tightly against your ears as if doing so would somehow make all this noise go away.
Daniel had remained behind the glass door, a white claw held in his hand as he talked to Jonah. In a quick moment of silence between the two, he glanced back at the living room through the window. At first glimpse, the party seemed fine as the neon pink lighting had darkened everything. Then with a second, he noticed you on the couch, almost curling up every inch of your body and squishing against some other people he didn't even realise he invited. Daniel swore it took him all the self-control he could muster to not just stop the party right then and there now that he'd seen you like this.
You started to sweat. You could barely breathe. You scrunched your eyelids tight, hoping everyone would merely continue minding their business without a second thought of your behaviour. You brought the back of your hand up to your forehead in an effort to cool your body down. You kept it unmoving there, but then felt the pressure of another hand resting upon yours.
"You're okay, it's just me," you heard a whisper, a small touch prickling your skin. You peeked through the small gap of your knees, lifting your head more and more as Daniel's voice became familiar to you. "Let me take you somewhere quiet." was all that was needed for your shoulders to untense and your mind to stop whirling just a little less. Daniel held his hand out for you to hold, and as you took it, he helped you up off the sofa slowly.
The warm light of his room was an incredible contrast to the vivid LED lights in the rest of the house and the music had now become a faint background noise. Daniel didn't speak a word just yet. He moved across the room to his bed, silently urging you to take a seat with him. He looked back at you earnestly when a sniffle interrupted the quietness. He wasn't sure how to respond. All he knew was that there was no number of words to make you feel better, so he just waited for you to walk over to the bed.
Daniel stayed as still and silent as humanly possible while you sat beside him, refraining from his habitual soothing touches or sweet words of affirmation so that you could gain back some of that personal space you seemed to have lost back in the far too busy party beyond his hushed bedroom. Neither of you spoke as you were lulled to sleep, and Daniel smiled as you curled up closer to him. You let yourself relax with him, finally in the gentle arms of someone you felt the most safe and comfortable with
