Summary: Daniel asks you out on a date.

In the speckled, afternoon sunlight, a pleasant shade had fallen amid some trees outside the small-town cafe. Y/n was sitting on one of the outdoor tables with a few friends. Textbooks were spread on the wooden table top and chatter buzzed between them as they studied.

Daniel stood nervously in front of the counter, encompassed by gaily flowers that swayed and danced with the light breeze invited by the open entrance door. The local flower shop was Y/n's favourite place to go. Daniel always noticed how she would slow down to pay a lingering glance as they walked past or the way she would shyly ask, "can we stop by?" nearly every time the sign on the door read 'open'. The white, glass paned, back door creaked opened, revealing the florist with fresh pots of flowers in their arms.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. These just came in." The florist started, glimpsing down at the various pastel roses. The flowers were enriched with life and the colours as soft as silk.

Daniel's eyes skimmed the flowers slowly and he looked at the florist again. "They're perfect." He breathed.

"Great." The florist chuckled. They set down the pots carefully on the concrete floor.

"Who's the lucky person?" They asked with a friendly grin. The flowers were handled by skilful hands, with uttermost delicacy and caution.

"Y/n...uhm-um...she's my best friend, hopefully she'll be more soon." Daniel admitted shyly, flashing a cheeky, toothed smile back. He barely realised what he said until the florist let out a humorous chuckle in response. His dimpled cheeks flushed with the same red shade of roses he was staring at, and his hands fell habitually to the nape of neck.

"You got this." They assured after a few calm moments, offering the bouquet of flowers across the counter.

"Thanks," Daniel chuckled, sliding a few loose dollar coins from his pocket. He took the bouquet of flowers and was turning towards the exit before he spun back around. "You don't think it's too much, do you?" He asked solemnly, gesturing to the fresh flowers held tightly in his grasp.

"You can never give someone too many flowers...Don't worry about it, dude." They chuckled, giving Daniel one last wave before he was tensely padding across the concrete footpath. He zipped open his bag and let the flowers slip in carefully. It felt like only a second had passed when Daniel's gaze caught Y/n. He desperately clawed for at least a deep breath to calm his nerves but was merely met with Y/n's sweet smile.

"Hey Dani. What's up?" She greeted cheerfully.

"Hey, I was just heading inside." He said, faking a calm exterior. He let his backpack droop down his shoulders, and he zipped it open, pulling out a perfectly neat binder with 'history' written in whimsical letters on the spine. "Here are your history notes."

"Oh thanks." She replied, pulling a tight smile. Y/n's friends shared knowing glances with each other as they giggled cheekily behind her. She snapped her head back to send them a strong glare. Y/n's attention was occupied, and Daniel took the fleeting opportunity to pull out the flowers gently, sling his backpack over his shoulders and hide the bouquet with his spare hand behind his back.

"I also-" He started shakily before calming down once she turned back to him. "-Did you wanna go on a date with me this weekend?"

Y/n dropped her gaze timorously, but Daniel noticed the common gleeful grin that crept onto her lips. She glanced up again, "Yeah, I'd love that."

Daniel couldn't hide his relief, letting out a deep, comforting sigh. He nodded quickly. "Great. So, I'll just text you..." He rushed out in excitement, "tonight?" Y/n nodded and almost slipped past him to head to her car without the flowers. "Wait!" He called out. He slowly revealed the bouquet held nervously in his other arm. "I got you these." Y/n's lips pursed in momentary shock like it wasn't the first time he'd brought her flowers. Daniel waited silently for a reply, his eyes flicked from her face to the flowers repeatedly. The sudden touch of her body pressed right up against his was his response. "Thank you so much." She whispered in his t-shirt. Daniel breathily chuckled as they hugged and rested his chin perfectly on top of her head, brushing the few stray locks of hair away.

They pulled back after a couple long minutes. Y/n sent him one more silent smile before waving him goodbye.

"See you!"

His eyes lingered fondly on her as she bashfully headed to her car, almost skipping in excitement. He chuckled and spun around towards the cafe, ignoring the cheeky glances and laughter from her friends as they sauntered past him.
