a/n: Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to anyone that celebrates it! this isn't my best at all lol but I hope you enjoy it.
summary: not a request, but i thought it was cute lol. you and Jonah go out in the snow, have a snowball fight.
Above the chilly, snow-clad wooden deck, the sunset sky dappled with falling speckles settled upon the horizon. The back view of his house invited a sublime glow to rest over the indoor floors. In a calm setting, you sat with your chin in your palm, eyes plastered to the well-thumbed pages of a book you pulled from his family's bookshelf. It was until louder taps on the glass turned your gaze towards the window. The picturesque scene had brought Jonah out on the deck, hands shoved into his puffy jacket pockets. You could tell he was still cold by the way he hunched his shoulders and almost curled inwards while he gazed at the barren stretch of snow-laden land. That was when you realised the view deserved more than just a quick glance.
You got up off the couch and shut the book on your way to his bedroom. Your own wintry accessories were hung in his wardrobe, and you pulled out your coat to meet him outside. You slung a long scarf around your neck and grabbed a beanie for Jonah before heading to the deck. Beside the doorway were your boots and you hurriedly put them on, a jolt of excitement sparking within you as snowflakes glided down from the sky.
Jonah didn't hear you step out. The pillowy, thick carpet of white muffled your footsteps to silence, and your lips curved into a smile at the sight of him unheedingly standing before the winter sunset. Even as you approached him, he didn't notice you. That was when the idea came.
Quickly, you decided to catch him off guard with a snowball, just for some laughs in the fading sun. You bent down cautiously and reached your hands to the ground for a fistful of snow, so icy it was slightly harder to shape in your palm. But to his luck, just as you were about to whip your arm back and toss it at him, Jonah had looked over. You decided to throw it, anyway, pelting it at him with a bursting splat of already melting snow.
"H-hey! What was that for?" He exclaimed, his stance frozen in place, features moulding into feigned hurt at the impact.
You laughed nervously, bracing yourself for his revengeful snowball toss and made a beeline for the quickest escape route, the large snowy field beside the deck. You expected to see Jonah, but he merely stayed on the deck, a good few inches above you, peering over the wooden railing as you hid somewhere along the line of wintry trees. Standing on your tippy toes, you craned your head to look at him, feeling his snowball finally collided with your chest.
"That was right at my heart!" You frowned, pressing a hand over your chest, the melting snow on your coat glinting in the soft light.
"Oh, I'm sorry," He pouted, extending out the vowels. You gazed wearily at him as he sauntered down the steps towards you, but the one hand behind his back caught your eye and you stepped backwards in anticipation of the hit. "Why are you moving away from me?" He taunted softly, striding through the thick white blanket reaching to his ankles.
By then you had crouched down hastily, shovelled a handful of snow, and pressed it firmly into a ball with your hands. For a moment, you even forgot Jonah was standing only a few paces away, until the icy feel of wet snow landing on you stung your clothes and skin.
You ignored him, frantically focused on making your own snowballs. Then there was a moment of quiet in the wintry air, with Jonah waiting a few paces away and you finally ready with your few snowballs tucked in your hand.
"Okay," You spoke softly, peering at him. "Truce?" You hid your arm behind your back, feeling the snow drip from your fingers to the ground. He walked closer.
"Truce." He agreed, waiting for you to shake his hand, knowing full well that wasn't the truth.
The pair of you were both hiding snowballs behind your backs, your hands slowly moving closer. But before your hands met for a handshake, you both chucked your snowballs at each other, the sunset sky reflecting above you.
