It was Friday morning, a cold and quiet Friday morning. I was eating cereal in the kitchen when Reece entered. He offers me a ride to school but I decline and tell him that Sienna would be picking me up. After he leaves I quickly walk towards his bedroom.
It reeks of body odor in this room. How can any girl be comfortable enough to sleep in here?
Nonetheless I was here to sift through his belongings. I wonder where he might hide all his earnings from previous races? I start in his closest and trickle down to his shoes.Again, the smell is strong and it's hard to miss. I'm afraid for my own safety in this room. Who knows what undiscovered species is lurking in here. I hold my breath as I continue my search. Then I find a sock, it's bulky and quite heavy so I look inside.
Reminding myself to wash my hands after this.
There it was, filled with wads of cash inside. I realize they were mostly dollar bills after examination. But I do find a couple of hundred dollar bills. I take a few in my hands and shove them into my pocket. Feeling overjoyed with myself.
I hear the sound of Sienna's car outside so I quickly get back on my feet to leave.
It's awfully quiet when I sit inside her car. She's looking at me waiting for me to say something.
"So we're not going to talk about you leaving with Flynn?" She asks. "What is going on?"
"Nothing is going on." I reply with a nervous laugh.
"Oh really? Flynn seemed very comfortable with you getting into his car why is that?"
I know unless I spill she will not stop interrogating me.
"We have English together and we were partners a few days ago." I said looking straight at her. I know if I break any eye contact she'll see that I'm lying. "We talk occasionally."
Sienna finally starts to drive to school. "Even if you were English partners that was still a really bad idea. He could have taken you to the other side of the tracks Romee. You're brother would kill him."
I laugh. "Reece is a coward he'd never kill anyone."
"I'm just glad you're safe."
We enter through the cafeteria. I notice the quick temperature change within the building. My skin is refreshed with warmth instead of the brisk cold from outside.
"I'm gonna go find Hunter." I tell Sienna.
In actuality I wanted to find Flynn. I search the cafeteria but all I find is Harley and Zane. The two who resent me the most. Zane's back is against a wall and Harley is standing in front of him.
I can already imagine our conversation as I make my way over. Zane snaps his head in my direction and whispers something to Harley. They each give me a dirty look. Like I couldn't already tell that they hated my guts.
When I'm close I find myself putting more thought into Harley's appearance. Her hair is jet black which makes her skin appear more pale and translucent than what it actually is. Her nails are also painted blue but most of the paint has worn away.
"Do you know where Flynn is?" I ask.
"Did you hear something Zane?" Harley says with a laugh.
