It was a brand new day, a whole day closer to being kicked out of our home and shipped away to live with our aunt. I couldn't stomach the thought of starting over somewhere completely new. Especially when I was so close to graduation.
While I ponder I realize I shouldn't be wasting my time lying in bed. I get up to brush my teeth and fix my hair and when I finish I walk out of the bathroom, down the hallway and into the kitchen. Reece is sitting at the counter with his head in his hands.
"Why didn't you tell me Hunter had cheated on you?" He suddenly looks at me with his brown beady eyes.
I shrug nonchalantly. "I-I don't know to protect him I guess?"
Reece laughs. "He's been my best friend for so long but I guess that chick was more important than us."
"Don't you think you're being a little dramatic?" I ask with one of my eyebrows raised. "My feelings for Hunter died way before she entered the convo."
"No Romee I don't think I'm being dramatic at all, I can't trust him." He objects. "Ever."
"Maybe you should talk to him first?" I mention.
"No." Reece crosses his arms like a child.
Reece was taking this breakup a lot worse than I was. I question whether or not I should interfere because part of me feels like I'm the one to blame. Then I remember Hunters the bad guy in this situation not me.
"I gotta practice for Wednesdays race." Reece mumbles. "Are you coming?"
"Me?" I sound surprised.
"No fucking casper the ghost, yes you."
"Sorry. You just never invite me to your races."
"It's not a race it's practice." He says with an eye roll.
"Yeah, sure let's go." I grin, making Reece cringe.
Once I'm decent I walk out to Reece's car that's sitting in our driveway. I sit inside and put my seatbelt on before Reece has a meltdown as we prepare to leave the house.
"When did you start racing?" I ask. I was curious, my brother has this entire life I don't know about.
"My first race was last year." He tells me. "We mostly street raced until the cops got on our asses about it."
"So then, you just do this for fun?"
"It's an adrenaline thing, also chicks love it and I get paid."
"Can you stop calling us chicks?" I query. "And Flynn has he been racing as long as you?"
"I've never asked." Reece shrugs. "Here we are."
"That was quick." I say looking at the dirt track ahead. Around the track is an entire field with tall grass. It's strange to see this place in daytime. My eyes scan the area and suddenly I see a few cars in the distance.
"Is this place usually empty?"
Reece growls. "It's supposed to be."
I feel his car speeding closer and closer to the group. That's when I see it's Flynn and his friends. I see no problem with sharing the track. Reece on the other hand looks furious. He quickly comes to a stop and jumps out. I roll my eyes as I hop out of his car to see him speed walking towards them.
