The night took and unexpected turn, I was drunk and alone as I wandered down a deserted road. Uncertainties were lurking around the edge of my subconscious. I disregarded the thought of a stranger possibly following behind me from the house party.
Now cold and lost, mentally and physically, two illuminated headlights blind my sight of direction and I become aware; they're heading right toward me. I'm seconds away from either dying or becoming a vegetable.
17 hours before...
"You couldn't make it to the bedroom?" I shun my eyes away from my nearly exposed brother and his late night booty call on the couch. The girl springs up from her place, hitting the hard wood floor to shield herself.
I've already become accustomed to my older brothers one night stands prancing around the house. He's not even phased by my reaction nor does he care he's in our living room on our couch, naked.
I reside to the kitchen and pour myself a bowl of Lucky Charms while I hopelessly try to ignore my brother scrambling around the living room.
This was low, even for him.
"When will I see you again?" The girl asks on her way out.
"You won't." Reece replies before slamming the door in her face.
I'm baffled. "Better hurry brother, school starts in fifteen minutes and you're driving."
Reece rolls his eyes and waves me off. "I don't approve of your relationship with Hunter but can't he take you to school?"
"No, it's more convenient for you to drive me." I answer simply, shoving a mouthful of Lucky Charms into my mouth.
Reece growls. "You're avoiding him, why?"
"I'm not avoiding him..."
Reece shakes his head and gives me a sly smile.
Hunter was originally my brothers best friend and somewhere throughout our life's chaos he saw passed my flaws and asked me to be his girlfriend. Reece tried to change Hunters mind, even going to the extent of showing him horrible pictures of me sleeping in my preteens. Let's just say I had braces and I drooled like crazy back then.
Besides that I had always found Hunter attractive but I was never attracted to him. He was similar to my brother in many ways which I disliked. Somehow he convinced me to go on a date with him and it's been seven months since.
At first it was exciting and humorous. Now it's nothing but awkward. Hoping you keep the other one interested enough to stay.
"Are you ready?" Reece says heading for the door while he fumbles with his keys. I grab my things and follow in suit. I was mentally preparing myself for the day ahead.
I was a junior in high school and it was the middle of October. Reece was a senior, known by the entire school while I sat in the background as his shadow.
I stand beside his sports car which takes him a few minutes to open. He got this thing last year and treats it like his baby. I'm not sure how he came up with all that money so I don't even ask.
"Seatbelt." Reece orders once I'm inside.
I hoist it over my shoulder and click it in before he starts the car and hurriedly makes the drive to school.
"Are you excited?" Reece asks titling his head to glance at me. "To see your boyfriend?"
"Ecstatic." I sarcastically reply, he's just being dramatic because I've gone a whole weekend without seeing Hunter.
