Steffy

I plop down on the couch sighing. The tears are just behind my eyes, ready at any moment to come out. At this point I don't know how I have any tears left. I take a few minutes for myself just trying to gather my thoughts and pull myself back together. Surprising enough, I pull myself together quicker than I thought.

I look up towards the clock and realize it is almost 10 a.m. I expected it to be later, but become grateful that I have plenty time to myself. I thought Amelia would be coming back, but since I haven't heard from her, I am assuming she will just stop over later.

"Oh Liam," I cry sadly. "Just come home." I take my phone that is sitting on the coffee table to dial Dr. Roberts' number. I know that I won't get a response immediately, as I'm sure he's with patients, but I need to try. I briefly argue with myself if maybe going directly to his office instead, I could get quicker results, but ultimately decide against it.

I search the internet on my phone in order to find the number to Dr. Roberts' office before immediately dialing the number.

"Good morning, Dr. Roberts' office, this is Lisa, how may I help you?"

"Hi, this is Steffy Spencer, Liam Spencer's wife, is it possible to speak with Dr. Roberts? I have a couple things I want to ask him."

"I'm sorry, Dr. Roberts' is in with a patient right now. I can transfer you to a nurse if you want or I could take a message for him."

"Yeah. You know what, a message would be great. Thank you."

"Whenever you are ready, Mrs. Spencer."

"Please call Steffy Spencer at 868-555-5521, regarding Liam Spencer."

"Okay, I have all your information. I'll see that Dr. Roberts gets back to you."

"If it could be today, that would be extremely helpful. Thank you. You have a great day."

"You too, mam," the receptionist says.

I cringe slightly at the mam comment. No matter how old I get, when someone calls me mam, it still makes me shiver.

As soon as I place the phone down, I remember that I abruptly hung up on Bill earlier. I pick it back up and dial his number, Bill immediately picks up.

"I'm sorry, I abruptly hung up on you earlier, it was just the kids were here, and I didn't want them hearing anything just yet."

"Not a problem. How are things? Is your dad still there?"

"No, I sent him to the office. I just need some time by myself."

"Understandable."

"Do you have any—" I begin before getting cut off.

"No, I don't. I am still working on some stuff."

I sigh loudly in aggravation.

"Steffy, we are doing everything possible. I know it's going be rough, but these things do take time. If I was able to snap my fingers and Liam would appear, I most certainly would do that. But, I can't. I have Justin working solely on this. Everything he normally does is being back burned or given to someone else."

"What about the private investigator?"

"Steffy, he just got to work, but I have a meeting later with him to discuss what he's done so far and what the plan is."
