CHAPTER 29

Nagpa-reserve pa ng hotel room si Clyde para kay Nyx sa isa sa pinakamalaking hotel sa Maynila. Ayaw daw nitong ma-hassle pa siya kaya pwede pa siyang magpahinga bago ang meeting.

Nagbaon siya ng dalawang business attire niya. Buti at naitago pa niya iyon.

Nang sumunod na araw ay sinundo siya ni Clyde. Napatanga ito sa kanya. Malayo ang hitsura niya sa karaniwan niyang damit sa bukid.

She was wearing a simple cream blouse and a pencil skirt. She paired it with her three-inch heels. Her curly locks are down which reached the bottom of her spine.

Makikipagkita siya sa isang boss ng malaking kumpanya kaya kailangang presentable siya.

"Parang hindi kita nakilala Miss Nyx."

"Business attire lang ito. Sanay ka naman na sa ganito."

Natawa ito at sumakay na nga sila. Metro Manila will not be Metro Manila without the traffic of course. Nang humimpil ang sasakyan ay tiningala niya ang napakatayog na building sa harap niya.

"Sa inyo ba itong buong building Clyde?"

"Oo, Miss Nyx."

"Ang laki pala talaga. Matanda na ba ang boss mo? Masungit ba siya?"

Natawa ito. "Bata pa si Sir. Mga thirty six. Depende sa mood niya. Nitong mga nakaraang linggo masungit siya."

"Sana hindi siya bad mood ngayon."

"Sana, Miss Nyx. Salamat at pumayag kayo. Pakiramdam ko ilang linggo na lang ang itatagal ko bago niya ako sisantehin."

Tinapik niya ito. "Hindi naman siguro. Promising ang proposal niyo lalo na yung research. Matagal ko ng gustong gawin iyon."

Kaya siguro na-enjoy niya ang proyekto nila Chael noon dahil passion niya talaga ang research.

Nang makarating sa function room ay binati siya ng mga tao roon. They were friendly for people who are already executives.

"Wait lang natin si Sir. Nasa office pa raw siya pero papunta na rin iyon."

Binigyan siya nito ng brochure na pwede munang basahin. She was a seat away from the Chairman's seat. She's well versed in business but she feels intimidated.

Iniisip ba ng mga tao sa kuwarto na ito na wala siyang alam sa mga pinag-uusapan ng mga ito?

Azrael was having a tough morning. Traffic was hell as usual. He haven't had his coffee yet and he'll be having a meeting first thing in the morning.

Finally, his team found a prospect for the project he gave them months ago. Matagal na niyang sinimulan ang proyektong ito. This is the closest they have been to materializing it. 

He will be seeing them in the meeting.

Inabutan siya ng sekretarya niya ng kape habang papunta sila sa elevator.

Nasalubong niya si Clyde na mukhang pupuntahan na siya sa opisina.

"Sir Azrael! Good morning po!"

"Morning. Are they there?"

"Ah isang representative lang po ang nakasama, Sir."

"Did you make sure he's briefed?"

"I briefed her Sir. It's all ready."

"Good."

Sabay-sabay na silang pumasok.

His eyes immediately fixated on one figure in the room. That hair...where did he see that again?

"Ah Sir Azrael, si Miss Nyx po pala. Siya ang representative ng Highland Farms."

He stared at her and she stared back. Ilang beses ba niyang napanaginipan ang pangyayaring ito?

He extended his hand. "Good morning. I'm Azrael Iglesias."

She looked at his hand before slowly accepting his. "Nyx Umali."

Naghiwalay lang sila nang marinig ang boses ni Clyde.

"Let's start the meeting."

He was aware of her presence. Halos hindi na siya naka-focus sa presentation ng team niya. She on the other hand seemed to be into the presentation. She was taking notes as well.

When his team is finally done, bumaling ang mga ito sa kanya.

"The proposal didn't change from what you've presented to me before." Sabi niya. Bumaling siya kay Nyx. "Do you have any objections with the proposal? These are all detailed in the contract that you'll be signing later."

"Natanong ko na ito noon pero gusto kong marinig mula sa iyo..hmm..dahil ikaw ang namamahala ng kumpanya na ito...na hindi masisira ang lupain namin."

Tumango siya. "Yes. Nasa contract din iyon na sa inyo pa rin ang mga lupain at hindi namin pwedeng galawin. We will be in a partnership. Ang profit na makukuha mula sa pagbenta namin ng produkto niyo ay kung hindi man pareho ay mas mataas sa kinikita niyo. The research project...well...I wanted to introduce new varieties of vegetable that we can sell in the country. It is all in the contract. Ire-review natin siya clause by clause."

She nodded.

As their meeting progressed he realized he's looking at a different person. She's not Nyx, the nun. She talked and looked at him differently. Or maybe because they are in a different setting?

"Mag-se-schedule na lang kami ng isa pang meeting Miss Nyx para sa 90 day plan ng project."

She nodded and shook Clyde's hands. "Thank you. Pati sa pag-asikaso sa akin."

"Ay naku, salamat din Miss Nyx. Alam mo na..."

He stood up as the other executives left the room. "Can I talk to you? Alone?"

She looked up at him as she was fixing her things. "Tayong dalawa lang?"

He nodded. He didn't know he was holding his breath.

"O-okay."

She put her notebook and tablet in her bag before standing up. 

Napalunok siya. Again, this was a different person in front of him. 

She was wearing a blouse and pencil skirt with heels. She looked far from the nun's habit she always wore. And her curly locks...he imagined how it felt to brush his fingertips on them.

Gaano kadalas ba niyang tinitignan ang portrait nito sa bahay niya? Kailan ba siya nabaliw sa babae? Romantically? Ngayon lang.

He had the resources to look for her. He can find her in a day. But he didn't. Hindi niya maintindihan. Pinagkakasiya niya lang na makita ang portrait nito araw-araw.

He felt pathetic for the past weeks and months for secretly loving a woman who doesn't want him back. He had a little bit of hope in his heart which slowly faded.

But she's here now. Back in his life and they'll be working together in this important project.

 She walked in front of him with confidence. She held her head high despite her short stature.

"Saan tayo?"

"There's this cafe not far from the office. Is that okay?" He doesn't want prying eyes on them if they stay in the office.

She nodded as they got in in the elevator. 

He shook his head internally. How can she be so near and far at the same time? He wanted to hold her hand just to make sure she's really there with him.

Matagal na niyang inamin sa sarili na his heart finally met his match and it wasn't easy to let go of their memories together. Nyx definitely made her mark.

As he looked at Nyx walking by his side and he thought, maybe He was actually helping him all along.
