Clay POV.“George! Where are you?” I called out, continuing to run around as I held the axe and crossbow in my hands. What had happened? There was screaming but no canons… was he bleeding out somewhere in the forest? Maybe he couldn’t talk…
“Hey George!” I called again. I followed the footprints of George and the strange mutt creature and eventually made my way to a force field. No, I could not see the force field, and I couldn’t hear the quiet hum which people from District 3 say the force field emits.
A panel was on the floor, it was a hexagon shape and was dim. I crouched down next to it for a second and examined it, before looking at the hole that was beside it. Well it wasn’t a hole, it was a crater. And there were wires ripped out of the force field revealing a small crawl space which seemed to be a vent.
I knelt down to take a look at it when I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. Immediately I grabbed my axe and spun around to attack someone, but froze when I saw a peacekeeper there aiming a gun at me. My eyes narrowed and the guard gave me a warning saying that he’d shoot me if I didn’t cooperate.
Deciding not to test the person pointing a gun at me, I dropped my weapons and raised my hands up behind my head. The peacekeeper walked up to me and jabbed me in the shoulder with the gun’s barrel, causing me to fall back.
I landed on the ground and before I could do anything he injected something into the side of my neck. My eyes narrowed in anger, “what did you inject into me?” I asked, trying to push him away and grab at the axe to swing at him.
All of my attempts were unsuccessful, and just as I was on the edge of blacking out he picked up a walkie talkie looking thing and spoke into it. “I have the tribute from 4. Bring a hovercraft over to get him.”
Nick POV.
The 2 boys I was hiding out with were cowering in the corner. They had let me hide with them when the creatures turned up. The thing with saggy green skin. I just so happened to be climbing over the rocks around the general area when they showed up.
Then I fell into a gap between the rocks and there were 2 boys there. Even though we didn’t say anything at all to each other we all seemed to have a mutual agreement. Stay quiet and keep an eye out for these mutts, but so far they were ignoring us.
Eventually they left, the mutts disappeared and I looked between the gap in the rocks again but still didn’t see them. I let out a sigh of relief and looked at the 2 boys sitting opposite me. “So what are your names?” I decided to ask the pair.
One of the pair stayed silent, his arms were wrapped around the other boy and he looked from him over to me but didn’t speak. The other boy did speak though. “I’m Karl,” he smiled, when his grey eyes met mine he blushed and looked away.
After Karl spoke up the other boy did. “I’m Alex,” he muttered, his arm still wrapped around the brunette boy even though he was the shorter of the two.
“Well I’m Nick…” I stated, they shifted awkwardly as they looked me up and down and noted the knives sitting beside me.I opened my mouth to calm them, to reassure them that I wouldn’t kill them since I didn’t really find the fun in that, when there were voices from outside the cave. “You three tributes. All of you come out here without any weapons.”
The 3 of us glanced in the direction of the voice, none of us wanted to move though. After a moment the voice let out a grumble and we saw someone making their way between the rocks and one landed in the middle of the cave.
It was a peacekeeper and he immediately swung his rifle around the cave pointing it at all of us in turn. Karl let out a yelp, and hid his face in Alex’s shirt. The latter of those 2 kept one arm wrapped around Karl and raised the other as a sign of surrender. When the gun was pointed at me I raised my hands too.
The peacekeeper growled at us to stand up and climb out of the cave and the 3 of us reluctantly did. 2 other peacekeepers were waiting outside of the cave and aiming a gun at the opening we came through. When the 3 of us were out of the cave in the cool evening the rifles were pointed at our chests and we were told to get on the ground.
“What the hell is happening?” Alex asked, anger in his voice as he spoke. “Why are you pulling us out of the game?”
The 3 of us were confused, the peace keepers and the game makers never interfered with the games while they were on. Well except for the 75th games, but why would they get us out now?The trio of peace keepers didn’t answer but one pulled 3 syringes of a clear coloured liquid. He knelt down, first beside Alex and injected one of the syringes into his neck. The tribute began squirming and trying to push the peacekeeper away but got held down by another peacekeeper until he eventually fell limp.
“What did you do to him?” Karl asked worriedly as the peacekeeper pocketed the first syringe and put a second one against the brunette's neck.
He injected the same thing into Karl’s neck and while another peacekeeper made sure to hold him still even though he was less resistant than Alex was. Finally the peacekeeper with the syringes came over to me and injected the last clear vial into my neck, I bit my tongue and clenched my fists as the barrel of the syringe was emptied then saw the world going dizzy before fading into black.
