"So, I guess you met our new Jungkook."
Taehyung grimly nod his head, making Junghyun let out a humourless chuckle.
"What happened after I left, Uncle? Please tell me everything. "
Junghyun was deep in thoughts for few minutes and Taehyung didn't interrupt him. Then the elder started to talk in a melancholy voice, as if he was reliving those troubled times.
"First, he cried a lot. He asked, begged me and Taemin to bring you back. He was.." Junghyun's voice trailed a bit in to silence, as he remembered the pain he felt at his son's heartbreak. "He was not in his a good mindset at all, Tae."
Taehyung covered his face on with his hands and tried to calm his mind. It was even worse that he imagined. The first few weeks were like hell to him too, but he atleast knew the reason for it. Whereas Jungkook was never given any explanation.
"Two-three weeks later, after realising that you are not coming back or we are not doing anything to bring you back, he just... withdrew. He stopped talking to anyone, hardly ate and just stayed in his room, all the time."
"We all tried to get him out of there but he refused. It actually scared us even more than when he was crying. Then, atleast he was showing his emotions and letting them out. This phase lasted for few weeks too, until one day, he just exploded in a fit of rage. Tae, you know that Jungkook had never been a one for enraged meltdowns right?"
Junghyun looked at Taehyung, who had his eyes wide in horror and gave the younger a soft smile. Taehyung couldn't do anything else but nod. Jungkook always had the sweetest nature, Taehyung rarely saw him upset even.
"But it was exactly what happened that time. He wasn't fighting with us, but rather with himself. We later figured out that it was with his wolf."
"What do you mean?" Taehyung's voice was barely a whisper.
Junghyun looked even sadder now. "We can't be hundred percent sure but it seemed like Kookie fought with his wolf and completely suppressed it."
"Oh God! No!!"
"Yeah. As you also knew, Jungkook's wolf was very close to surfacing. But after that day, we couldn't sense it at all. Kookie fully blamed the mate bond for making you go away and his wolf had to pay the price."
"What have I done?! It's all my fault!"
Taehyung groaned in to his hands again. Never in million years he wanted something like this to happen. Yes, he acted little impulsively but he honestly hoped that it was the best thing to do. How can things go so terribly wrong?
Junghyun sat next to the younger and put his arm around him. "Don't beat yourself up for it. It won't do any good now. We all thought this was the best way."
Taehyung nod his head weakly. There was no point in dwelling in the past. Taehyung just wished to go back to that time, so that he could correct his mistakes. And maybe do things differently.
"After that big blowout, Kookie changed. He started hanging out with different set of people. Troublemakers. His attire changed. His habits changed. I think severing the link with his wolf may have played a part in it too. One day he came home with a bandaged arm. We were so worried but it turned out he had gotten himself a tattoo."
"Tatoo?!"
"Oh, you haven't seen them yet? Yeah, the whole arm and part of his shoulder are covered with tattoos now."
"B-but.." Taehyung didn't knew how he can still form sentences with his mind being this shocked. "He can't stand even a slightest pain!"
"Not this new Jungkook." Junghyun gave a humourless chuckle again. "I think he has few piercings too. He used to have a one on his eyebrows but it was not there from about a week."
"We never thought to monitor his accounts or put restrictions cause Kookie had always been responsible. It was a shock when he came home on that godforsaken bike. I didn't know how he learned to ride it even. We tried to take it away but Kookie said he will leave the house if we did that."
"I'll try to talk to him." Taehyung said in a determined voice but Junghyun shook his head at that.
"I highly doubt he'll listen, Tae. And anyway, I believe it will do more harm than good now."
"What do you mean?"
"What happened was indeed terrible but you can't change the past, Tae. Kookie seemed to have made his peace with what happened. He found a way to cope and he genuinely seemed happy now."
"B-but-"
"I was actually worried what will happen when you came but Kookie didn't seem affected at all. It's like whatever feeling he had for you, is completely gone."
"We miss our baby, there's no denying that. We miss the sweet boy he was very much. But Tae, I don't want to see him in that heartbroken phase again. It was agonising for him. You will not stay for more than few days right? I don't think it's wise to shake his world again."
"Tae?" V's voice broke the torturous spell that Taehyung was falling in to.
"V?"
"I think we should let him be. Now that we have no place in his life, what right do we have to question or advise him?"
Taehyung looked up at Junghyun's concerned eyes and a small nod. The whole purpose of putting himself and Jungkook through this hell was for the younger to be safe. Whatever the route it took, looks like it was accomplished now.
Jungkook didn't want to do anything with Taehyung anymore, just like how the elder wanted.

Taehyung met with his friends on the next day. Partially because he missed them but the bigger part of it was to know about Jungkook's new friends.Yeri and Hoseok had few choice words for Taehyung, for leaving without saying anything to them. They had came to Taehyung's house to look for him, and his father had told them that Taehyung suddenly had to go oversees for an important businesses.
They were all confused but Jungkook's state distracted them from their own curiosity. The baby of the group was clearly in a much darker place than they were.
"You wouldn't believe how he changed, Tae." Yeri said after she finally stopped firing curses at Taehyung. "He turned in to Bella Swan after Edward left. And after few months, he turned in to Jacob Black. He's part of the bad boy group in collage now."
That's exactly what Taehyung came to inquire about. "Tell me about his new friends."
"Well, Suho and his group are a year younger than us. Our resident troublemakers. Nothing too serious, just minor vandalism, bad risk taking, you know, your typical teenage rebels. Jungkook follows them everywhere but he hasn't got caught up in any of the messes. Yet."
"Are they dangerous?" Taehyung couldn't help but ask.
Hoseok thought for few seconds before answering. "To others, not really. More like a danger to themselves. I mean those monsters bike are not the safest way to travel."
Taehyung gave a nod in agreement. He did agree with what Junghyun said about leaving well enough things be, but he just couldn't turn a blind eye if Jungkook is putting his life at risk.
Maybe he should try talk to Jungkook. The younger might listen for old times sake.
