Luke felt panic surge through him. Would his friends treat him differently? Is this who he was? Why did he get partnered? Elves didn't get partnered! Even as an Elf he was different! Why was he so weird? He was messed up! He hid under one of Eclipse's wings, taking comfort in the shelter it gave him. Eclipse stuck her head under her wing.
Don't worry. Will be fine. Nothing to worry about. You who you meant to be. Way you meant to be. What you meant to be. She said.
I'm an Elf! Luke said. She snorted.
No wrong with it. She told him.
After all those years of being made fun of, thinking my ears were deformed, THEY WERE REALLY GOING POINTED! Luke carefully pulled the wing closer. He felt himself shaking. Bad. He needed to calm down. He tugged on his shirt. Why was he so panicky about this? He should be glad that he was a Powerful Being. Then he realized, he was immortal, his friends weren't. They would die, and he would live on. He would be lonely, alone. The Earl had adopted an Elf, Luke couldn't be Earl if he was immortal. Eclipse nudged him.
Will be okay. She said.
Easy for you to say, you knew what you were from the start.
Choose you because you the change. Change is needed. You the needed change.
That's what my parents said in my dream last night. Luke wondered why he was having dreams of his parents. Was that normal for an Elf? Luke felt someone poke him. He poked an eye out from underneath Eclipse's wing. It was Korman. Luke put his head back under, took a deep breath and stuck his head out.
"Whoa! Your ears are pointed!" Korman whispered.
"I woke up this morning with them Like this. I really am an Elf." Luke said. He resisted a shudder. He really wasn't ready for everyone else to know. There was no way to hide his ears without things looking suspicious.
"That's really cool! You're a Powerful Being!"
"What are you guys whispering about?" Ailwin asked. Luke quickly ducked his head under Eclipse's wing again. Surprisingly, she didn't move it. Luke kept his breathing level so Ailwin wouldn't be able to tell he was panicked. He reached up to his ears and felt them again. They were still pointed. He struggled to keep his breathing even. Eclipse brought her wing closer to him. He felt himself calm a little. She stuck her head under her wing again. The foal wiggled under the wing. He settled himself next to Luke. Luke stroked his white muzzle. He looked at Eclipse.
Things will be way they meant to be. She said. Luke felt Fionntan enter his mind.
You are troubled by what you are, don't be. You are still the same person you were before you knew you were an Elf. You still have the same personality. He said. He was right. He was still the same. He brought his head out from underneath Eclipse's wing.
