"The actual insemination was supposed to be today but they're running a few more labs, something they found in my bloodstream." Miranda sighs through the phone. I hear chatter in the back, which I can assume is because of the Jamaican restaurant they're eating in.

I fold the last shirt from my laundry and set it on top of the other folded clothes, leaving the phone on the bed as I walk to my dresser, "Did they at least tell you what it was?"

"No, Mija, only that they'd have to push it back until tomorrow."

I frown, "But you guys were supposed to be coming home tomorrow." The phone is grabbed from the bed and I tuck a strand of hair behind my ears, scratching the spot.

"I know, honey, I know. I just, ugh, I want to get this over with. Honestly, I'm kind of scared, you know?"

I nod, though Miranda hasn't ever had any health issues, it's always frightening to hear that something is found in your bloodstream and the doctors are being weirdly discrete about it. I'm going to say something but stop myself when I hear Ellen ask to speak with me in the background, and it takes both of us by surprise, Miranda letting out an "Oh?"

"Hello?"

"Hey," Her voice sighs out, making me nervous about her next words. "I didn't get a chance to talk to you about the baby...and whatnot." I can tell she is trying to make an effort to include me in the conversation, and I'm genuinely appreciative, as well as surprised.

"That's okay, I'm happy for you guys," I grab a hanger and begin to throw my jeans through them.

"Yeah, well, I know I haven't been the best parent but I scheduled for you an appointment at the DMV tomorrow. All you have to do is take the written part. By the time we get back to Carolina, I'll think about letting you use the Lexus."

My mouth falls open in shock, actions coming to a stop "Wait, seriously?"

"Yeah," She acts like she's getting annoyed, but  I can hear the smile on her face.

"Oh my god, mom, thank you! I mean- what time is it? I have to study!" I jump across the room, practically running to the small desk on the other side of my bed and flipping up the calendar on the wall to look at the date. Tomorrow is the 19th, I pin up the other months and grab a pen from my desk as Ellen tells me it's at 9:00 am.

"Okay, well, I'll let you speak to your Mama, I just wanted to let you know." she dismisses herself from the phone and I repeatedly thank her again, promising that I won't fail this time.

"Okay, Mija, I'll call you later, we're about to head up to the hotel," Miranda tells me, her voice is a bit happier than it was when we first spoke, I'm sure it's because she heard our conversation.

"Okay, mama, I love you, and you guys be safe, okay?"

"Alright, love you."

The phone is hung up and I don't stop myself from doing a squeal, tossing my phone on the bed, and rushing over to the Mac laptop on my computer desk, and pulling it open. The cursor to google chrome to research study guides. There are so many websites and information to cover, so I click the first link.

I'm not scrolling for long before I get the general basis of the written test, most of it is common sense, I'm not sure how I failed last time, but I'm sure it's had something to do with me being hungover.

My eyes are following the black text on the white screen for a few paragraphs before my phone goes off, signifying a text message. I ignore it at first, too deep in the words to care, but after two minutes, it goes off again. I push away from the desk and roll the chair over to the bed, leaning across it to grab the phone and rolling back as I unlock it to check the notifications.
