Hailey walked up to school an hour early. she had to talk to someone. She spotted Drew standing by the entrance on his phone. She walked up to him. "Hello, Drew." She said, drawing his attention. "Good morning Hailey." He said in an unusually cheery voice. Hailey was taken aback, but still responded. "I wanted to talk to you about Jake." Drew's smile faded by the smallest bit. "what exactly do you want to talk about?" Hailey saw the smile drop, but didn't think anything of it. "About what happened to Jake recently. im sure you know what im talking about." Drew's smile faded. "How his uncle left?" Hailey nodded. "And that someone broke into his house." She added. Drew was getting nervous. "Why are you bringing this up?" Hailey stared at him. "I just wanted to ask what you think of all of this." Drew didn't really know what she meant, but responded anyway. "I feel really bad that this happened to him. i wish i could've done more to make him feel better." Hailey was mad now. she knew what Drew had done, and was going to confront him for it. "you LIAR!" She shouted at him, her rage fuelling her voice. Drew was taken aback by her sudden outburst. "W-What are you talking about?" She was fuming with anger. "YOUR the one that broke into Jake's house!" She screamed. "YOUR THE ONE WHO MADE THAT POST!" Drew took a step back. "YOUR THE ONE THAT MADE US HATE HIM!!!" she screamed even louder. She lunged towards him, mind driven with anger. Just before she would have knocked him to the ground, a hand pulled her back. She tried to break free from the grip but whoever it was was strong. She turned around and all her anger seemed to disappear. Jake was holding her back with a look of shock on his face. Drew stared at Jake with a scared and anxious face. Jake let go of Hailey and stepped infront of Drew. "Drew, was all that true?" He asked, voice cracking. Drew hesitated. "it is.." He said with sadness in his cold, heartless voice. Jake didn't seem to react at first. he just stared off into space for a few seconds. until, "Why would you do that?" Drew didn't have an answer. Jake stared at him expectantly, face slowly morphing into disappointment. "Drew, i cant believe you." Jake said with distaste. He turned around and walked away, Hailey tailing behind him, arm around his shoulders. Drew stood there, in shock and pain. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one that felt that way. Jake walked away, feeling empty. Hailey talked with him, comforting him. No matter what Jake thought about, his mind always kept going back to what Drew did. Without realising it, Jake started crying. Hailey was taken aback. she had never once seen Jake cry. he didn't seem the type to show these kind's of emotions. "Jake, calm down. its going to be okay." She reassured him, to no effect. Jake just kept walking. He didn't seem to process anything happening around him. He vaguely heard someone screaming. probably Hailey. He just kept walking, ignoring everything. He finally snapped out of it when he saw a bright light and heard a loud sound. The last thing he remembered was a sharp pain in his skull and then darkness.
Drew was devastated with what had just happened. He wanted to explain to Jake why he did what he did, but he froze. he was scared. And now, it was too late. Jake hated him and would probably never talk to him again. Drew sighed and started to walk away from the school. He didn't want to do anything today. He thought about how everything went wrong. He began realising the magnitude of what he had done. He had always known that what he did was wrong but when looking at it from Jake's perspective, he realised what he had done was horrible. How scared Jake must have been when he found out someone broke into his house. how he felt when the music club rejected him. how he felt when he realised his best friend had just betrayed him. Drew felt awful and regret what he did even more. He began crying but ignored it. He continued to walk away, feeling disgusted with himself. He glanced at Jake as he walked away and felt his heart drop. He saw Jake crossing the street, seemingly in a trance as Hailey screamed at him. Drew felt like everything stopped all at once. he couldn't hear or see anything other than the sound of screaming. without hesitation, he ran towards Jake. It seemed like everything was moving in slow motion. He didn't even realise why he was running until he saw it. A black truck driving directly towards Jake. Jake didn't even see it coming. He ran off the sidewalk and saw Jake finally snap out of it. he stared into the headlights of the incoming truck, seemingly mesmerised. Drew tackled Jake out of the way and jumped backwards, however, he was not fast enough. The truck hit him head on. he didn't remember anything other than the pain, and blackness.
Hailey didn't know what to think. Jake had heard that every bad thing that has happened to him recently, was because of his best friend. He must be feeling terrible. Hailey walked with him, eventually becoming silent. She had nothing else to say that could do anything to cheer him up. She saw something bright approaching but didn't know what it was. she squinted and froze with terror. it was a massive black truck hurtling down the street at Jake. She screamed at Jake to move, run, do anything to get him out of harms way. He snapped out of it but didn't move. he just stared at the oncoming danger as if he was hypnotised. She saw something or someONE run forward. They tackled Jake out of the way and tried to jump back but got hit head on by the truck. Hailey screamed for help as she saw Drew roll off the hood of the truck, bleeding uncontrollably.
