[Mila x Laurent] Teachers of Hawthorn
His cellphone rang. Leaning back against the seat of his chair, Laurent fished the cell phone from his pocket. He answered with a quirked brow at the number across the screen. "Hello?"
"Hi, is this Laurent? This is Mila Sati..." The gypsies voice was soft, if a bit wary. She wasn't the kind to be calling men on the phone.
After a moment, the light bulb came on. The fortune teller girl. There was an awkward pause.. "ah.. yeah, this is Laurent. I didn't expect to ever hear from you again.. how are you?"
"Sorry, I am afraid this isn't really much of a social call. I was wondering if I could get you to come by the store? ...maybe make sure you're wearing that amulet? I have been...I think I need to see you."
He had to chuckle at that, and then nodded to the phone as he replied, "yeah. Sure. When?"
"Uh...whenever you would like. I have open hours and I am the only one working today..."
"Alright then. I'll be by in a few - anything I should know first?"
"No. I'll be here...."
It was close to an hour later before the blond haired fellow ducked his head through the door in tandem with it's soft jingle. Like flaxen reeds swept astray in a handsome mess, his hair was just a touch longer than it had been the last time they'd met.
He approached, leaning into the counter as he arrived with a glance around. Seeing if he could spot anything that had changed in the store since his last visit. "So. What's on your mind?"
The tall gypsy girl stood behind the counter, and fortunately for him the place was dead. She still looked around nervously. "You don't...there's nobody else here, right?"
A golden colored brow raised, at her mildly skittish manner. He took a look around, just to make sure. But when he was certain the proverbial coast was clear, his gaze fell back on her. "It would appear, that it's just us Mila.."
"I had a dream about you, and before you get any ideas no it wasn't one of those...." She looked at him, and more specifically at his throat. "Where is that necklace?"
Around his neck was a masculine, dense chain. Had the top couple buttons of his collared shirt not been undone, she'd not have been able to see the pendant of petrified wood with accents of quartz, fossilized ivory, and bone. But as it was, she could see it clearly. Not the amulet she had barfed him, though.
He smiled at the mention of him being in her dreams though said nothing, and just let the grin linger for a moment. He removed the amulet from his pocket, revealing it's safe keeping. "I haven't worn it."
With deft actions, Mila took it from his fingers and yanked it over his head. "Wear it..." she said firmly. "You have to wear it. You ever hear of ...stare into the abyss long enough and it stares back at you?"
And then he was wearing it. "I've heard the phrase."
"Look, this was given to you by that...that dry voice. Its for protection, and it won't protect you if you don't wear it. "
He didn't bother mentioning that the other necklace that had been given to him and enchanted by Miranda was also for protection. He let it hang from his neck and leaned forward a little on his forearms. "What's going on Mila? You're kind of freaking out a little... just calm down."
He said in a genuine manner, with a layer of concern.
"Look, suddenly there's this earthquake, and then the aurora in the sky..and I am starting to see things. Real things, and I know what..there is some freaky shit out there!" She pointed to the door. "Do I even have to mention the fact that this necklace came out of my mouth? Out of me! There was no con!"
