"Life is full of surprises. Although not all these surprises are pleasant so you need to be ready for what life brings you"

Two weeks couldn't have gone by any faster.
It was the night I dreaded. Vivian Jennings 50th birthday Party.
It was like the whole world knew. The magazines published it, the bill boards displayed it, the media houses broad casted it and every radio station spoke about the great and powerful Vivian Jennings Golden jubilee. "Another milestone has been crossed in the Jennings family" they spoke. It's like it was what she wanted.
I wasn't surprised
She has always been one for the media. She craved the attention and power she got from them and they were always there by the side ready to Dish it out.
This party was going to be grand. Only the highest ranked celebrities and public figures from all over the world received the strict golden passport Like invitation.
The rest who werent invited would watch from home as the event was going to be live streamed.
The whole world would be watching.
Newspapers had already started estimating the amount that had and would be spent on this event. Every one was anticipating.

Every one but me.
I dreaded this night.
I didn't want to attend.
I didn't want to have to pretend in front you the whole world to be some one I'm not.
I've done that for the past 5 years perfectly but I wasn't sure if I could do it again tonight.
Something about Rachael attending with her baby bump that was clearly obvious now didn't sit right to me.
She was also important in the public eyes.
They would wonder, asked questions and dig deep enough until they found out who the baby's father was.
That was the press for you. They thirsted for every information. And they would always find out.
And I didn't want that. I didn't want to have to put my private life in the public for the whole world to scrutinize me. I've had enough of that theses past years.
I didn't want my baby in the public eye. But given his last name, that was nearly impossible to ask for.

Rachael didn't mind not attending. She said she was exhausted anyways.
But Mrs "everything must go as I say" insisted that her grandchild's birthday mother must be present at her party.
I hated how she was quick to accept her but not me.
It wasn't a surprise to anyone that she didn't like me. I just wished she wouldn't be so comfortable at the thought of Rachael being her grandchild's birth mother.

Over the past weeks, Mason and I have been relatively fine. He's keeping up his word but trying to make it up to me. He's been sweet and tender lately. We've been having deep conversations and I'm getting to be more comfortable with him. I know he didn't mean to do it. That wasn't the man I married. We've gotten closer although I wouldn't deny that I haven't forgotten that night. A little part of me still fears of it happening again. But I've chosen to believe him.
In about 4 months we will be parents and everything would be fine.

After 6 longgggg hours. I was all dolled up and ready to go.
Mason was in the other room getting ready. I hadn't even seen him since I started my whole make over.
I wore a champagne gold long flowing dress with an exposed cross crossed back and a slit that stoped mid thigh. It was simple yet elegant and costs a fortune. But luckily, Mason paid for it and every other one thing I needed to purchase for this event. Not that I couldn't afford it, but it was his evil mother's birthday and I wasn't going to spend a dime on this. I even bought her gift with his money. He he.

I finally came out of the room and carefully walked down the stairs to meet Mason waiting for me at the bottom.
He looked rather dashing as usual. He wore an onyx black suit with a champagne gold tie and pocket napkin to match my dress with suede shoes.

"You- you look so beautiful." He swallowed

He looked like a small Child telling his crush he liked her for the first time.
I turned a shade of pink. This felt like it did all those years ago when we first started.
I liked this. It was going to build the trust again.

"Thank you. You look very good as well. Shall we leave?"

And with that we left to the party.
We arrived in the limousine because everything had to be extravagant for his mother. The amount of paparazzi waiting at the entrance was frightening.
What the hell was so interesting in watching a bunch of rich people come together to wish one old lady a happy birthday.

They were many guest celebrities already in attendance. Some which I recognized and some which I didn't. They were already on the red carpet being interviewed and photographed.
Well let's get this over with.

2 hefty body guards ushered Mason and I out of the limo, protecting us from the numerous people trying to reach us.
Most of them fan girling over Mason. Typical.

We posed and smiled for the camera. Turning in various directions to get captured by the many photographers blinding us with intense flash light at various angles.
Nothing could be faker than my smile. We looked like a happy couple in love Gibing different poses for the cameras at many questions were thrown At us at the same time.

Finally we walked through the red carpet and into the main hall
And as I suspected Vivian Jennings face was plastered EVERYWHERE. No exaggeration.
The hall was of course beautifully decorated

I could even see the video graphers setting us their cameras. This was going to be live streamed so I had to be composed. No matter what I do there was always going to be someone in their home watching me. That didn't creep me out at all. Note the sarcasm.

Hours of many introductions went by and my cheeks were hurting from all this fake smiles. The party was going smoothly.
Everyone had presented their gifts and the star of the night has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the crowd.
The food was exquisite. I had to give her that. But if course, she flew her favorite chef from Germany all the way to cater for tonight. Unbelievable.

I was sitter beside Rachel with Mason by my side.
My feet hurt from all the walking around and I wasn't even the one that was pregnant. How wonderful

As expected, People had asked questions about her pregnancy and thank fully she managed to dodge the conversation.

It was now time for Vivian to give her speech of thanks.
A round of applause was given as the host announced her to the stage. We walked up with Masons dad by her side as she took the microphone to speak

"Words alone cannot describe how elated every one of you have made me by gracing this party with your attendance. Many of you have left back important work and flew all the way to celebrate with me. I am indeed very grateful. And to the decorators that spent tireless nights to-"

I cut her off there. This was boring and I didn't want to listen to her. It felt like she was talking for hours before  she finally got to the ending where she would call for her family members to join her to cut her cake. I waited for her to get to Mason and nines names. God I didn't want to get up that stage In front of this many people.

"And finally my beloved son and the mother of his child, Mason and Rachael"

My heart stopped beating and I forgot how to breathe. All heads turned to our table.
