Monday morning, Jaxon and I arrived to school at the same time, parking side by side. We got out of our cars and started walking towards the entrance of the building. Jaxon grabbed my hand as soon as we started walking up the sidewalks.

"Hey, Ellie, can you help me with something?" Adam, a boy in my Algebra 2 class, asked.

"Sure. What is it that you need help with, Adam?" I asked, leading Jaxon and I towards his table in the lunchroom.

"Can you help me with a problem from last night's homework?"

"Yeah."

"Great. Thanks. Let me get it out of my folder." He said, fishing through his terribly organized backpack.

Adam finally found his crumpled up math paper and showed me the problem he was having trouble with.

"Oh, that's one of the simple problems." I said and quickly helped him get the answer. Jaxon stood there, waiting patiently for us to finish.

"Thanks again, Ellie. I'm thankful I could have someone as pretty and beautiful and smart as you to help me."

Jaxon kept quiet but his head perked up when he heard Adam giving me a compliment.

"No problem."

"Ready, babe?"

Jaxon asked, getting impatient. I could tell he was extremely jealous. He was clenching his jaw extremely tight, and his fists were balled up against his sides, almost to the point where they were white at the knuckles.

"Yeah. Bye, Adam." I said, waving bye to him.

"See ya, Ellie." He said, waving back.

"I don't like him." Jaxon stated as soon as we were out of earshot from Adam and his friends.

"Why?" I asked, linking my hand in his.

"Because."

"Because why?" I pressed on, curious. We were almost to our little 'clique' of friends.

"He was all over you." He stated simply, clenching his jaw again.

"Are you jealous that Adam called me beautiful and pretty?" I asked, smirking.

"Of course not." He scoffed.

"Awe, Jaxy waxy is jealous." I said, pinching his cheek, "it's okay, I think you look so adorable and cute when you're jealous. I find it very attractive." I stated, "plus, Adam is gay." I added, laughing slightly.

"He's what?"

"He's g-a-y, gay." I said.

"Since when?"

"Since last year, I found out two days after I arrived here. How did you not know?"

"I honestly don't know. I thought he was straight."

"No, turns out he is as curvy as it gets." I said laughing.

"That was the lamest joke I've ever heard, babe." He said laughing. We had finally made it over to Chloe, Grace, Eli, Lincoln, and Jed.

"Whatever, that joke was hilarious!" I said, continuing to laugh, "I'm a funny person! Admit it."

"No, you have some pretty lame jokes." Chloe said, laughing.

"Do not!" I defended.

"Okay, tell me a joke. If we think it's not a dumb, corny joke, and actually funny, then we'll laugh." Grace said.

"What did the rapper say about the harsh weather?" I asked.

"What?" Jaxon asked.

"Oh it's just a Lil Wayne!" I said and started laughing.

All six of them looked at me like I was the dumbest person ever.

"That joke was so lame." Grace said.

"Don't forget stupid." Chloe added.

"C'mon, that joke was hilarious!" I said, laughing even harder.

"Babe, that joke was so dumb." Jaxon said, playing with my hand.

"Okay, I have another one," I said, they all nodded for me to continue, "what does a nosey pepper do?"

"What does it do?" Eli asked.

"It gets jalapenó-business!" I said and laughed even harder than I did at the other joke.

"That joke was even dumber than the other." Lincoln said with a straight face. The others nodded in agreement.

"You guys have no sense of humor." I said, pouting, pulling my hand away from Jaxon's and crossing them across my chest.

"Baby, we were only joking. I'll admit, that joke was slightly funny," he said chuckling slightly, "I just wanted to give you shit about it. You're not mad are you?" He asked, concern lacing his voice and his eyes wide. "Sweetie, that joke was funny. It was hilarious, tell another one, I'm sure it'll be funnier than the rapper one you just told!" He said, grabbing my hands in his.

I started laughing. "I'm not mad. I understand, that joke was corny." I said. Jaxon let out a breath he'd been holding.

"Okay good. Tell another?"

"What do you call an alligator in a vest?"

"What?" Jaxon asked.

"An in-vest-igator!" Jaxo laughed, only because he thought it would upset me if he didn't.

"Oh come one. That one wasn't funny?" I asked in disbelief.

"Oh, don't get your panties in a twist, babe." Jaxon said chuckling, swinging our hands back and forth. The others laughed along too.

"That, that was funny!" Lincoln said, laughing so hard that he was crouched over, clutching his side.

"Unbelievable.." I mumbled.

"Be right back." Grace said. She quickly walked away and we continued talking.

"We should all go to the movies this Friday night." Chloe said.

"Yeah, we should." Jaxon said.

Chloe arrived back. "Guys, meet Chase, Liam and Lauren Clark. They're brothers and sister." We all exchanged hello's. "They're new here."

"What grade are you guys in?" Jed asked, eyeing Lauren.

"I'm a senior, Liam is a junior, and Lauren is a sophmore." Chase, said.

"Cool, we're all juniors." Lincoln said.

We continued chatting, until the bell rang for first hour.
