Eventually they spotted a cute looking diner and pulled in to the carpark, Lexie texting Sam the address as Bucky parked up.
They entered the diner and took a seat in a booth towards the back. The waitress came over quickly, menus in hand.
"I'll just have a burger, fries and a side of onion rings please. Oh and a chocolate milkshake!"
"Sure thing! And for you sweetie?" She fluttered her eyelids flirtily at Bucky.
Lexie noticed and saw Bucky tense up "Oh.. I'll have the same please""No problem, they'll be right out. If you need anything else, anything at all, just call me, my name is Cindy" she winked at Bucky and turned, flicking her long blonde hair over her shoulder, walking away with an exaggerated swing in her hips to draw attention to her tiny shorts.
Lexie suddenly felt very aware that she was wearing an oversized sweater and sweatpants and she looked a mess. She looked back at Bucky expecting to see him drooling over the waitress but found him watching her, with a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Tilting her head at him she asked "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I'm just relieved that we're OK again and you're back to eating" he reached across the table and took her hand "I've missed you Chip"
"I've missed you too Buck, and again.. I'm sorry"
Bucky scooted further in to the booth and motioned for her to move to sit next him and he held his arms out for a cuddle. She excitedly moved to his side of the booth and gladly threw herself into his embrace.
"How about we agree to stop saying sorry to each other all the time and just go back to being friends and enjoying each others company?"
"I wholeheartedly agree" Lexie pulled back and grinned at him. She sat back, neither of them really noticing how closely they were still sat or that Bucky had put his Vibranium arm around her shoulders.
Cindy the waitress returned carrying their milkshakes, she noticed them now sitting on the same side of the booth the good looking guy now with his arm round the girl no way they're together, look at her. I bet she's his sister or something she thought bitterly.
She grinned widely at the Bucky, showing off her perfect teeth "there you go honey" she slid his drink across the table to him making sure to lean down low enough so he could get a good look at her cleavage. Cindy felt smug satisfaction and she saw his eyes drawn to her chest, and drift lazily down her body as she stood up to her full height. "So is there a special reason for this lunch with your..sister?"
Lexie was fully ready to commit to pretending to be Bucky's sister, she'd noticed him practically salivating at the waitresses cleavage. so, Bucky Barnes is a tits man she mused. She had felt a pang of something as she watched the exchange, was it jealously? No it can't be she told herself. Before she got a chance to say anything Bucky spoke
"Oh she's not my sister, she's my girlfriend. Right sweetheart?" He looked at Lexie, pleading in his eyes
Lexie was stunned for a moment but decided to go with it "Sure am my love"
Cindy's confidence faltered, but only for a second "Well, you're a very lucky lady, he's very handsome"
"Oh, I know" the two of them still locked in eye contact
Bucky tenderly ran his thumb across her bottom lip "I'm the lucky one, she's perfection"
Cindy cleared her throat "Yes. Well.. I'll go check on your food"
Bucky let his hand drop on to the table and Lexie pulled her gaze down to her milkshake and took an awkward sip "mmm that's good"
He followed suit, taking a sip of his own milkshake "Yeah, it is"
