Spoil Sport

Bucky stormed in to the living room of Zemo's house and slumped down on the couch. Lexie trailed behind and following suit flopped on to the couch, putting her head in Bucky's lap.

"We have a problem" Bucky announced to the room as he absentmindedly stroked Lexie's hair.

"You got Lexie pregnant?" Sam asked jokingly

"It's been less than a week Sam. Besides, that wouldn't be a problem" he smiled down at Lexie, the thought of her being pregnant with his child filling him with a warm happiness.

Lexie avoided his gaze and sat up sharply "where's the bathroom?" She asked Zemo.

He pointed down the hallway "second door on the left"

The three men exchanged awkward glances as Lexie all but sprinted out of the room.

"What was that about?" Sam said looking at Bucky

"I've no idea. Do you think I should go after her?"

"In my experience, if a lady escapes to the bathroom she wishes to be left alone. If she escapes to the bedroom she wants you to go after her" Zemo offered a thin smile of support to Bucky. "So, what is this problem?"

Bucky sighed heavily, looking down the hallway where Lexie had gone "The Wakandans are here for you Zemo. I've bought us 8 hours but after that they're coming after you"

As Bucky filled in Sam and Zemo on the details of what had happened, Lexie sat on the edge of the bathtub quietly crying in to her hands. She had seen that look on Bucky's face before, Steve had had the exact same look when after a couple of months together he suddenly realised that she had not yet had a period and he became thrilled at the prospect of being a father. She could also remember the heart break on Steve's face when she told him why it was not possible and that it would never be possible and she cried harder as she pictured the heart break on Bucky's face when she would inevitably have to tell him the same thing.
As the bathroom filled with the sounds of her muffled sobs, her mind began to fill with unwelcome thoughts. Steve would have stayed if you'd given him a baby. She knew that was true, Steve never would have abandoned a child, and although she was happy with Bucky and loved him with all her heart it still hurt and it fuelled the fear of Bucky leaving her the same way Steve did.
Lexie hadn't asked Steve if he and Peggy had had children, she hadn't dared and Steve knew enough to not bring it up. Bucky is going to leave you for someone else who can give him a baby. "No no no" she muttered out loud to herself "he loves me. He won't leave me"

That's what Steve said too.

There was a gentle knock on the bathroom door "Chip sweetheart, are you alright?"

"I'm fine Buck. I'll be out in a minute" she moved to the sink and started to splash her face with cold water to disguise the puffy red eyes that were a tell tale sign that she had been crying. Swinging open the bathroom door she was met with Bucky, his eyes examining her face, his own face brimming with concern.

"You've been crying" it wasn't a question.

"I'm fine Buck"

"I'm sorry if I upset you, or if what I said freaked you out. Can we please talk about it? Let me fix it baby please. I hate seeing you upset and I hate it even more when it's because of me"

He cupped her face in his hands and waited with baited breath for her response. Lexie sighed, knowing he wasn't going to let this go easily. "It's nothing you said, I promise. We will talk about it just not here, not now. I need more time, I need more time with you. I can't lose you yet" her bottom lip trembled and tears filled her eyes again, threatening to fall.
