Author's POV

In His office, Hafiz screamed out all the frustration he held within. He threw a punch that easily sliced through the air until "Gbam!" It hit the impenetrable wall.

His hand felt numb from the pain, yet he sent another punch at the concrete wall. After the second punch, he knew that he could only hurt himself by this assault. So, he gave up on the wall, turned to the small table behind him and flipped it over.

None of it helped in easing his frustration or calming him down.

"Of all people, why her?" He said as he sat down with his back against the wall.

"Sir! Sir! Is everything alright?" His secretary's voice came through the locked door.

"Yes! Go back to your work."

"But sir..."

"I said go back to your work!"

With that, the secretary reluctantly gave up on the issue and left. While Hafiz's mind travelled back to the day when Aliyah injured her foot.

Flashback
That day, after Hafiz took Aliyah to the hospital, he went back home to find his dad waiting for him, right beside his dad was a familiar feminine figure, Maria!
His legally married wife.

"We've been waiting for you for sometime now. How useless can your phone get?"

"Good evening dad. I had an emergency to attend to, and I forgot to take my phone along. I am sorry for the missed calls."

"Enough!" He said unwilling to hear the rest of the explanation. "Have a sit."

"What is she doing here?" Hafiz asked as he walked towards the sofa.

"Even if I wasn't your wife, the mother of your child, this is still a home I will be welcomed in." She said.

"Get out of my house." Hafiz said pointing at the door.

"Oh! I forgot that my son built this house with his own money. You might as well send me out too." His father said. He then went ahead to mimick Hafiz's voice.

"Get out of my house. Foolish boy, as long as I am your father, I command respect before you, so sit!"

Hafiz sat back and compressed his anger. But it wasn't just because of his father but also his mother who made her way into the room. She gave him the signal to compose himself.

"Alright. What is this all about?"

"I want you to take her back." His father hit the nail by the head.

"No, anything else but not that please."

He abruptly stood up, wanting to leave when Maria threw a question his way.

"Do you hate me that much?"

"Yes, I hate you even more!"

His words struck her like an axe to the heart, not that she expected any kind words from him anyway.

"I did a terrible thing yes. But don't hold me against my past. My regrets moulded me into someone better. All I am asking from you is a second chance, besides I am still your legal wife"

For once, her words almost softened his hardened heart, but he knew better that she is just like a chameleon.

"What if I free you from that bond?" He asked.

"Huh!" She gasped, her eyes widened of shock.

She wasn't the only one, both his parents were equally surprised.
