Hafiz's POV

Ever since this trial saga began, my strength has been constantly put to test. It is as if I was thrown into a vast ocean, at some point I felt like giving up and just invite the water in and drown. But then I remember my mother, Yasmin, Zarah, Aliyah and then I begin to swim against the wave not knowing if I could ever win..

"Once the court resumes, you will surely be called to the stand, you must not show any sign of weakness. If you let it slip that you can't remember what happened that night, salvaging the situation will be a task close to impossible. I hope you you understand the gravity of the situation." My lawyer explained.

"What if I am really guilty?" I asked.

"Oh come on! We both know you will never do something like that." Oumar who was also in the room protested.

"I want to agree with you but when there is a night in your life you can't account for, everything is a possibility." I said and I could see the frustration in his eyes as I spoke.

My lawyer on the other hand maintained a calm expression.

"Hmmm. Until I get you tested for illegal substance, do not in anyway admit that you can't remember the details of that night." He said to me.

"You want me to lie under oath?"

"No. Just do it the way we practiced. Alright."

"Alright." I said. "Oumar, please keep Maria away from Aliyah."

"I will do my best." He nodded.

I know how crazy she can be. After our bitter encounter today, she will definitely unleash hell on Aliyah.
Honestly, I didn't intend to lay a finger on her, but when she threatened to deal with Aliyah, I couldn't stop myself from slapping her. Yes, we were in court and I was under trial but I cared less. No one would threaten Aliyah before me and Scot free.

"The recess is almost over, Let's go back." The lawyer said.

As we walked towards the courtroom, I felt unsure and scared of the outcome of my trial. For as they say, "The law is blind".

Just when I was lost in thoughts, a police man bumped into me and before I could even react he placed a piece of in my hand.

"Watch where you are going officer." Oumar said from behind, a bit enraged.

"I am sorry, sorry." He said.

"It's okay." I said giving him a quizzical gaze.

He then dashed away with hurried steps not even turning back.

Something seemed off about him.

"What did he place in my hand?" I thought back to the paper he left in my hands.

"I need to use the restroom" I said to the bailiff.

"You have just few minutes left before the judge resumes." The bailiff cautioned me after checking his watch.

"I know. I won't take long."

"Alright." He said before escorting me to one of the restrooms meant for the gentlemen.

Once inside I opened the paper.

"Huh!" I gasped on the sight of the object wrapped in it.

"This ring...is the one I gave Aliyah!"

I took a closer look, and the "U&I" inscription of it confirmed my earlier thought.

"She wore the ring!" I said clinching my fist in an excitement that immediately died out.
