Vision's central eye narrowed at the massive figure of Birdwatcher lumbering around in the distance. The creature's horns were lined with birds that had nestled upon them. "I dunno why, but just lookin' at that guy makes me sick," he grumbled.

"Eyes up, V," N'ghft warned, peering into the sky. "The Worthy are on the move."

Vision walked over N'ghft, who stood at the ledge of the building upon which they stood, and followed her gaze.

Sure enough, four winged figures were streaking by overhead, leaving trails of green-and-orange fire in their wakes. Vision grinned and removed his cigarette, releasing smoke as he flicked it off the building. "Alright," he said with a cruel grin. "Time for some fun."

"Remember, we don't want to surprise them," Cameron was saying as she and the Worthy flew toward the border. "I'm proud of you guys for learning how to teleport, but just appearing in front of them would sort of freak them out."

"Hearing you talk about someone else getting freaked out is somewhat mindboggling," Gustav remarked with a smirk. "I remember when you were the one screaming at every—UNGH!"

THWANG

The sound of a bullet ricocheting off stone echoed through the air, leading the others to halt their flight as Gustav attempted to right himself. "Gus! What happened?" Zill shouted.

"I'm fine, I'm fine!" Gustav assured him, spinning around in an attempt to find the source of the shot. "But where—" Suddenly, he lifted his sword in an almost automatic defensive position, deflecting another bullet.

The Protectors' eyes all locked on the person who'd fired it—a tall, black-clad figure standing atop a building, his striped scarf billowing in the breeze.

Addison lowered his sunglasses, grinning up at them.

"There!" Gustav snapped, streaking forward.

"Gus, wait!" Cameron cried. "It might be a trap!"

But it was too late.

Addison stepped aside just before Gustav reached him, revealing a person dressed in Cthulhu cultist robes standing behind him.

Gustav's eyes widened. "No—!"

The cultist lifted their hands, projecting tentacles that lashed around Gustav, holding him fast. Gustav let out muffled shouts as he struggled to break free, but that only made the tentacles squeeze tighter.

Addison swaggered over to the Worthy, the smug grin still on his face. "Gussy, Gussy, Gussy," he said mockingly. "There were once days when I would've given anything to have you tied down before me." He patted Gustav's cheek four times, each time harder than the last. "Things – really – do – change."
