"This is the spot?"
"Yeah." Vision rubbed his nose. "They'll be here right around midnight."
Cthylla's group, the Protectors (Cameron and the Worthy), and two generals (one from the Canadian Military, the other from the United States) stood in the middle of the Animal District, surrounded by Xirxine's Animal Patrol, who kept an eye out for any dangerous beasts—both those native to the district and those from the Opening.
"So how's this gonna go down?" the Canadian general, Reggie Trask, asked. "You say we gotta stop these things, right?"
"Correct-a-mundo," Vision confirmed. "To stop the Convergence, we've gotta make sure none of the Inner Gods reach this spot. If they do, it's game over."
"We can't let even one get by?" the American general, Maybelle Dawes, asked incredulously.
"Nope," Vision responded, shaking his head. "If that happens, we're finished. Although," he added, "there is one other way to stop them if the Convergence begins."
"Lay it on us," Gen. Dawes ordered.
"We could reverse it," Vision told her. "Well, I could. But that'd involve letting Azathoth through the rift before reversing his power on him, and the chances of that working are so slim that if you held 'em sideways, you couldn't even see 'em."
"So we'll go with the original plan, then," Gen. Trask said. "Stop the monsters at all costs."
"Sounds good to me," Gen. Dawes agreed.
"Cool. Then if you'll excuse me, I'll just slip on outta here..."
Gen. Trask grabbed Vision by the arm as he attempted to leave the clearing. "Listen, son," he growled, "you've caused us a lot of trouble. Thousands have died because of those creatures you brought into our world. So when this is all over, you're gonna pay for your crimes, y'hear?"
"Loud n' clear, boss," Vision responded, ripping his arm out of Trask's hand. "Now keep your stinkin' hands off me." He straightened his jacket, gave Trask the evil eye, and slunk off.
Xirxine Northwest.
"...and I was talking with the Burlocks' chieftain—you know, Gorlon?—and he said they'd be willing to help out again," Cameron was saying to the chairpersons as Gustav, Zill, and Kayla entered the Xirxine Northwest facility's conference room. "Queen says the werewolves are in, too."
"What time is it?"
Cameron turned at the sound of Gustav's voice, unable to stop herself from wincing when she saw the long, crusted scab growing over the scarred side of his face. "Ooh! Gus, that—that looks like it needs... treatment," she said, grimacing.
