"WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!"

Gustav winced as Niquie whooped in his ear. "I knew I'd regret this," he muttered.

"Don't spoil it for her," Camilla scolded him.

Gustav sighed and flapped his wings, picking up speed as he burst through the clouds. He carried Camilla in his arms while Niquie rode on his head, holding tightly to two tufts of hair.

Camilla felt a thrill of elation rush through her, but it died away when she saw Gustav's furrowed brow. "What?" she asked. "What is it?"

"Nothing," Gustav replied after a beat. "Just... thinking."

"About what?" Camilla raised an eyebrow. "Addison again?"

"Well, yes," Gustav admitted. "But also our Protector powers. The others around the world are still Double Avatars, but Cameron lost the power of the dragon when Draconis split from her. Then Vision absorbed him, and now we have no idea what happened to him."

"He's probably burning in Hell," Camilla suggested with a grin. "That'd be for the best, right?"

Draconis roared as the humans screamed and scrambled to get away

Draconis roared as the humans screamed and scrambled to get away. That's right, cretins! Flee! Flee before my might! he ranted, spreading his wings and rising up on his hind legs. When I'm through with you, I shall return to my proper world and RECLAIM MY KINGDOM! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Gustav grimaced. "Somehow, I doubt that's how he's currently spending his time."

"Don't worry about him, Gus," Camilla told him reassuringly. "For the first time in a while, things are finally going our way. Can't you just relax and enjoy it?"

Gustav shot her a look, to which Camilla responded with a pointed smile. "I'll do my best," he replied with a smile of his own.

"Uh, ew!" Niquie gagged. "Save the goo-goo eyes for the bedroom, losers! Go faster!" She tugged on Gustav's hair, making him cry out and unintentionally pick up speed, much to Niquie's delight.

In the middle of the Serengeti, somewhere in a barren wasteland, a crackling bolt of red energy about ten feet high stretched from the ground into the air. It opened up, allowing six figures to step through.

Each wore a mask that glowed with white light, each mask shaped like the head of an animal: a lion, an elephant, a wildebeest, a baboon, a rhinoceros... and, lastly, a hyena. All of them had deep red skin and fur spotted with white points that glowed like stars, and they wore vermillion tribal clothing.

The man in the hyena mask walked to the front of the group, breathing deeply. "Finally," he hissed. "It is GOOD to be home."

His haunting laughter echoed throughout the wasteland.
