13 - Long Distance

You checked your watch. Once. Twice. Three times. It was still only 6:30. You groaned, running a hand over your face and standing up, chucking your phone onto the bed behind you. 'A walk around the castle couldn't hurt,', you thought, grabbing a jacket and opening your door.

Strolling the corridors, you couldn't help but pout. It had been months since Keith had left to join the Blade of Marmora, and a regular long-distance relationship was already hard enough. But one in space, where you could be literal lightyears away from each other? Yeah, normal long-distance wasn't sounding so bad to you right now.

"Five more minutes,", you whispered, checking the time for the thousandth time that day. Thing is, Keith could only ring you once a day, each time at the same time for half an hour. Your time together was scarce, but that's what made it so special. You spent it giving a brief chat about your day and then moved on to the more sappy stuff.

Upon realising you only had a few minutes left, your pace sped up, and you reached your room just in time for your phone to start ringing. You picked up quickly, sticking your phone onto the holder you had on your wall specifically for these calls, and sat on the bed, trying to regain your breath.

"Hey, sunshine,", he smiled, his helmet still on his head for whatever odd reason he may have.

"Hey Keith,", you grinned back, bringing your knees up and resting your arms on them. "How's your day been? Anything interesting?"

"Not too much. We finished up an important mission, and I got some news,", your ears perked up at this. What news could they have given him if he was smiling ear to ear? It must be good. Nodding your head, you encouraged him to carry on. "Well, have a look at where I am, love. That'll give you a hint,"

Looking behind him, you noticed he wasn't in his usual setting of a small, plain room, but was instead in what looked to be a small pod. Furrowing your eyebrows, your mind wandered to all the possible reasons he could be out of the Blade's base.

"Where are you travelling? I thought you had finished your work for the day?"

"Oh, I have,", he chuckled, purple orbs glimmering with a hint of cheek. "In fact, I'm free for the next month,", with that sentence, you instantly knew what he was hinting at, letting out a squeal as you picked your phone up and held it close.

"You can't be serious! How far away are you?", you chirped, now turning your camera off and rushing to your wardrobe to grab something to wear other than the pyjamas you'd been living in for the past few days.

"Okay, one; I know you're rummaging through your wardrobe to find something else to wear, but don't bother. I don't care what you look like, love,", you flushed at how well he knew you and heard him laugh on the other side of the line. "And second, I'll be there in a few minutes. My mission commander let me off early,"

"Oh my god,", you smiled, fumbling to put on your helmet, then leaving your room and entering the pod area, sitting patiently as you waited for his arrival. "Okay, I'm sitting in the pod bay waiting for you right now, and I'm in my pyjamas. Hurry up and get here before someone walks in,"

"On that note, maybe I'll do a couple of loops,", he joked. "I'll see you soon, n/n,", you pouted at him putting the phone down, but seconds later you heard the hatch open, a small pod flying in and landing near a free charging station and you had a change of expression.

Hopping up to your feet, you practically sprinted towards the pod, throwing your helmet to the floor as the door opened, revealing a raven-haired man in a Blade's uniform: Keith. Tears welling in your eyes at the sight of him, your arms moved at their own accord, wrapping around his neck as you hugged him tightly.

"Well hello to you too,", he chuckled, wrapping his arms around your back as his chin rested on your head. He, too, had taken his helmet off before leaving the pod, not wanting any more distance between the two of you. Not being able to see you every day, in his eyes, was already hard enough. He didn't need a silly helmet getting in the way.

"I missed you,", you whispered, playing with the baby hairs of his mullet on the back of his neck. Though, it seemed as if his hair had gotten longer since the last time you had seen him. Not that you were complaining, of course. He looked good with his hair longer.

"I missed you too, love. And as much as I love this, how about we go see the rest of the team for a bit, and then head to your room to spend some time together?", he proposed. He pulled away from the hug, looking you in the eyes as he reached a hand up, brushing a stray strand of hair from your face.

"Fine,", you pouted, tapping your fingers against his arms. "I see how it is. You come back and don't even want to spend time with me,", sighing dramatically, you pried yourself from his grip and began walking out of the pod bay. "I guess I'll just have to find a hot alien if you're gonna be like that"

"Haha, very funny,", he rolled his eyes, running after you. "But on a serious note, please don't run off with a hot alien. I mean, you're already dating one, after all,", his arm wrapped around your waist, smirking at you.

"Bold of you to assume you're hot,", you shot back cheekily.

"Well, we could get a survey from the local female aliens, if you'd like?", you pondered your answer for a moment, stroking your chin in false thought.

"No thank you, I'd like to keep my hot half-alien boyfriend to myself,"

"Thought so,", he chuckled, kissing your forehead.

"Keith?", you said quietly.

"Yes?"

"I love you"

"I love you too, darling"
