30 - Falling In Love

Keith didn't know when he had noticed her. He didn't remember why he had bumped into the h/c-haired, s/c-skinned girl, but he certainly did remember the moment he first talked to her. It was the day the paladins had returned to earth, and Keith was standing back, watching his friends reunite with their families. That was when someone caught his eye. You. Standing with Pidge's parents, a bright smile graced your lips.

His eyes followed your movements, hands clasping over your mouth as you gasped, the sun hitting your figure perfectly, in a way that made you seem ethereal. He had never found someone as seraphic as you: your beauty entranced him, and he couldn't tear his eyes away, even as you stood watching the family's reunion.

"Matt!", he heard you cry, tears falling from your eyes as you embraced the brunette male, burying your head into his neck as he twirled you around. Oh. The corners of his mouth pulled down. He watched as you were lowered to the ground and the two of you pulled away, your hand reaching up and slapping Matt's cheek. "What were you thinking? Leaving your best friend behind like that? I thought you'd died!"  Oh?

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry,", he shook his head, holding his now aching cheek. Keith chuckled to himself at the sight. You sure knew how to slap. "But I'm here now. And I've made a few more friends. Look, I even brought Katie back with me!", the girl in question leapt forward into your arms, squeezing you for a few seconds before pulling away.

"I've got some people for you to meet,", she told you, grabbing your hand and dragging you in Keith's direction. Shit. Flushing lightly, he averted his gaze, only snapping back into focus when Pidge tugged on his arm. "Keith, this is y/n! She's Matt's best friend, basically our sister,"

"Nice to meet you,", you greeted with a soft grin, and god, he could've sworn his heart skipped a beat at the sound of your voice. Fumbling awkwardly, he rubbed the back of his neck and gave a crooked, closed-mouth smile in return. "Thank you for dealing with Katie and that dork. They're quite a handful,"

"Yeah, uh, anytime!", he replied, mentally cursing at how stupid he sounded, but his nerves were put at ease when he heard your soft giggle.

"If you need anything, feel free to ask me, by the way. I may not be a pilot, but I am quite the doctor, and I've been told my baking is to die for,", your offer was tempting, and Keith found himself nodding, completely shocked at the fact you hadn't walked away yet. Fiddling with the baby hairs of his mullet, he hummed lowly.

"Well, I'll definitely take you up on that offer at some point. It's lovely to meet you, y/n,", he confirmed, holding a hand out for you to shake, which you took instantly, sending a shock up his arm at the sensation of your touch. Your hand, soft and delicate, fit perfectly into his, your touch gentle as you pulled him into a hug, the male's breath getting caught in his throat.

"Thank you for everything you're doing for us, by the way,", you whispered into his ear, giving him a small squeeze. Limbs stiff, Keith shuddered at how your warm breath hit his neck, barely able to lift his arm to reciprocate the hug. But the moment, of course, was cut short by Pidge dragging you away to meet the others. "Bye, Keith!"

Keith's feet dragged as he walked down the dimly lit corridor, his hand holding onto a fistful of his shirt as he clenched his teeth. A cold sweat gathered on his forehead, and he fought to keep his eyes open as he neared the door, lifting a shaky hand to knock. All was silent for a few seconds, and he was about to turn around when he heard pattering footsteps approach the door.

"Keith?", you questioned, rubbing your eyes and looking up at the male with a furrowed brow. He gave you a weak smile, and you glanced at his figure, noticing the pained look in his eyes. "Oh my god, what happened?", you shrieked, eyes finally landing on a large gash across his shoulder, and the boy shrugged, grimacing as the notion tugged at his wound.
