Arin was the epitome of perfection, his chocolate brown tone, calm eyes, lean yet strong built and charisma to top it off. He excelled in academic and sports all through school and college but didn't have the haughty attitude of most guys of his reputation and status. Rather he was quiet, hard to read and had a blank expression that simple respectful yet disinterested at the same time.
"So, what are your hobbies" Pari carefully tried to start a conversation as Arin's eyes was glued to the plate of food. An awkward silence followed...
"Nothing much" a short reply that clearly stated that he was not interested in the date. It was pushing Pari to the brink, she was a self-made woman of pride with enough achievements and reputation to back it. But her parents really seemed to like Arin, who wouldn't? He had everything and was kind, mannered and respectful when he visited her home as a suitor. It was unexpected, as though her family was fairly well-off, they couldn't match the enormous wealth of the Kare family who owned the AISC corporation. Initially, her parents politely refused their proposal unsure of their true intensions.
Though Pari was the Sub-magistrate of the district, in charge of important government contracts and so on, she was known for her honesty and strictness, even the most powerful people in the city knew she wouldn't budge regardless of their bribes or threats. A marriage wouldn't change that either.

"She is truly an amazing woman, having her as our daughter-in-law would be a blessing" Mr. Kare tried to convince her parents who were eyeing him with suspicion.
"With due respect, your son is no less successful, I'm sure you would have gotten many proposals, much more suited," Pari's father interjected, practically glaring at Mr. and Mrs. Kare seated opposite them.
"That's true, we can't offer much, this is unexpected" her mother added.
Mr. Kare unsure, looked at his wife for a response. "But I haven't seen a girl as beautiful and dignified as your daughter"
"You flatter my daughter too much Mrs. Kare, but I'm sure there are many wonderful women out there" Pari's mother replied, unconvinced.
Pari, observed quietly, as they remained silent unsure what to reply.
"Her reputation" a deep voice broke the silence. Everyone turned to Arin, dressed in a causal white top that hugged his ripped muscles, complimenting the blue checked formal pants. Everyone looked at him questionably. Glancing at Pari nestled between her parents he explained...
"It is true I got many proposals, but they lacked one thing. Her reputation and respect amongst the people. Everyone admires you and your contribution, and we are one of them"
Mr. Kare nodded furiously, as his wife smiled with relief. Arin's reply seemed to have satisfied her father, gloating in his daughter's praise. But her mother seemed unsure, yet she decided to give it a try. Pari was impressed by his honesty and confidence though wary at the same time.

"You have any favourite foods?" Pari tried only last time
"Nope"
silence......
Pari had enough, she firmly placed her fork beside a plate with a small sound enough to tear Arin's eyes away from his plate. With a sarcastic smile, Pari stated.
"Mr. Arin clearly small talk isn't to your taste, how about we be straightforward"
Letting out a sigh, Arin leaned back with a slight nod.
