Arin was out of prison. They couldn't hold him any longer, with no confession nothing much could be done. Surprisingly, Arin didn't lash out, seek legal repercussions or do anything for that matter. He simply returned home as if he was back from a vacation. It all seemed suspicious. With Arin's power, connections and caliber he could have turned the whole facility upside down in a day, that's what the senior officers were most worried about.
For Malon, this was the peace before the storm. Arin would have his revenge, there was no doubt about it as no man with pride would let this slide. He was worried that Arin didn't seek revenge against the secret forces because his eyes were set of Pari, his fiancé who played a key role in his arrest.
He was in front of Pari's office. He along with a few men were secretly guarding Pari unbeknownst to her. She was busy sorting through the files but would gaze out every few minutes. Rather than a distraction, it seemed like work was helping her distract her from things. She was like since her childhood, a workaholic. Now, he understood why she immersed herself in studies whenever a tragedy struck her world, not because it mattered more but to escape from her reality.
She suddenly called her PA and closed the window. That was the only line of sight between Malon and Pari. He signaled at the men to spread out and stay at guard while he approached her office. He knew he couldn't hide forever, it's better if Pari knew there was security, it would make keeping her safe easier. Weirdly, her office door was shut closed. He stood right beside the door and slightly leaned in to here.
"Madam, is this the man you wanted investigated?" He heard a few papers flippng
"Yes, this is the man"
"Any specifics Madam"
"Everything, from his childhood to now, where was he born, where he studied...everything"
"That will take some time"
"How long?"
"Atleast a few days Madam, it would have been quicker if he asked..."
"No, not at all. You are to tell not a single soul about this task. Keep it confidential."
"That'll be hard Madam"
"Get your underlings or help from outside to enquire it under another issue. Minor violations perhaps"
"Yes Madam, that'll be possible"
"Make sure it doesn't show in the office enquiry records" Malon's brows scrunched. That wasn't like Pari. She always played by the book, never subverted the rules even once. What was she talking about? Rather who was she talking about?
But before he could speak, the receptionist came.
"Who are you? What are you doing?" the old man bellowed as if accusing Malon on a huge crime.
"Who is it?" Pari's voice loudly commanded. The doors opened and Malon stood there helpless, giving a feeble smile like a child caught stealing biscuits. Pari sighed.
"Let him in." Her PA bowed and left in an instant as the receptionist left to get some tea.
"Mind telling me what you were doing snooping around my office Mr. Policeman?" Pari chided but her eyes serious
"I plead guilty, my lord" Malon played along
"I'm serious" Pari rolled her eyes as she got up pacing the office, stretching. Malon worried followed her with his eyes as he remained seated.
"I'm here to guard you"
"I don't remember requesting for security"
"Can't take risks Pari. Orders from up."
