Pari fiddled with her phone as she stared at the number, the one the man gave her. What was happening? Should couldn't wrap her mind around anything the man said or did. What did he want?
A simple call.
Pari sighed, I guess she'll have to wait for about a week before meeting the man again. After there little conversation, he left the venue without another word. Pari watched through the window as he walked across the street and disappeared into a labyrinth of street. She felt warmth against her back.
"Don't do it" Arin voice came low.
"I must"
It ended there, Arin must have realized Pari was not going to back down. Both left the room without another word as the engagement function was still underway.
"Working even now?" A familiar voice snapped her out of her train of thought.
"Malon" Pari sqeauled drawing attention. But it didn't stop her from jumping of her seat and engulfing the huge man in her tiny arms.
"U came?" Pari said stepping away from him, it came out more as a declaration than a question.
"Of course, couldn't miss my besties' engagement" Pari giggled as he got him to sit next to her.
"Says the man who was ignoring my calls for a month"
"I wasn't ignoring!" Malon quickly defended
"Then?"
"I was just a little busy with a new case" Malon mumbled looking at the floor
"Aw, my little Malon finally is working"
"Hey! I'm in the police for sakes, stop treating me like a kid"
"You're always gonna be the little kid with goo sticking out the nose"
"Not nice"
Their banter was interrupted by Arin as he stood in front of them, not in the slightest bit pleased.
"Mr. Malon" He greeted extending his hand
"Mr. Arin" Malon replied with the same sarcasm dripping from his voice
"Didn't expect to see you here"
"I had to come, how could I miss my Pari's engagement"
"Well, I guess from today she's mine"
"Excuse me, I'm not your toy boys" Pari got up getting in between them poking a finger into their chests. Before, Arin could protest Taren poppoed out of nowhere.
"Sir, there's an important call"
"Not now" Arin replied as he continued to stare at Malon over Pari's head
"Sir, it's from the security department, its urgent"
Arin let out a shaky breath as he flashed an apologetic smile at Pari. "Ill be back" with a small kiss on her forehead he followed Taren.
"You sure about him" Pari felt his hand on her shoulder as she turned to face him
"What do you mean Malon"
"You sure about him?"
"Ofcourse"
"Then, then its fine"
"Why are you asking me this?"
"I feel like you barely know him"
Suddenly a knowing smile flashed across her face, she gently patted his arm
"I know it's been hardly a year since we met, but I feel like I have known Arin all my life"
"Don't be so sure Pari, the more certain we are, the more it hurts when we are proven wrong"
"I know, Malon. But I'm sure about this one. Arin would never hurt me...and besides you're here, my personal bodyguard" Malon rolled his eyes as he chuckled.
"For Christ sakes I'm a policeman Pari"
Soon San came to join the pair. The trio took countless photos before older relatives sent the two men off the stage to begin the function. It all happened in a breeze, soon Pari and Arin exchanged their rings. The atmosphere was a festive one with music and dance, food and laughs but amidst the crowd Malon sat barely mustering up a small smile.

After the engagement, Arin dragged Pari behind one of the pillars and showered her with kisses until it was time to retire for the night. Getting into his car, he closed his eyes for a moment before taking off his suit, rolling up his sleeve.
"Did he do as he was told?" Arin asked
"Yes sir"
"Is he there now?"
"Yes sir"
"Good, step on it"
The car sped along the quite road like a bolt against the night.

A week had passed.
It was already late, but Pari couldn't get the number out of her head. She sat still in her chair of her office as she scrambled through the huge stacks of the file. Her assistant placed the 5th coffee on her table as Pari thanked him without glancing up.
"Ma'am please take a break"
"Still a lot of catch up" Pari replied with a tone demanding not be disturbed any further.
"Yes Ma'am" This was the only way Pari could stop herself from calling the man right there and then. She looked up more files as her assistant came back in a few minutes.
"Ma'am these letters came just now"
"Thank you" Pari took the letters as she quickly scanned through them. Most were related to work, from different ministries and department, from NGOs and from people about their grievances but one letter was without an address.
"This, who sent it?" She asked waving it slightly at the assistant
"I don't know Ma'am, it was on the reception. I asked around but no one say anyone coming through, even the CCTV didn't catch anyone"
"Weird"
"Should I ask the security to look into it?"
"No need, probably a citizen seeking confidentiality"
"Yes Ma'am" he left without another word.
Pari tore open the letter, but when her fingers slipped in she didn't find any letter. Bewildered she opened the envelope and gently tapped it on the letter but nothing came. It was probably a mistake. But as Pari moved it towards the dustbin, the lamp light caught it for a moment. Glimpses of blue stood clear against the white letter. Pari quickly grabbed a blade and cut open the envelope, and written on the insides of the envelope...
