A small drop of viscous blood hangs from his chin, threatening to fall, staining the white waiter's uniform he went through great lengths to procure. Quietly he studied the surroundings looking for the men in black who stood out like sturdy thorns amidst the vibrant crowd. Getting caught by one of the men was no different from plunging oneself in the jaws of death.

Quickly dabbing his busted lip with a tissue, he wore the mask covering his battered face as he straightened his uniform. This was his last chance, only she could save him.

The crowd was simmering with excitement, draped in silks and linen and adorned with jewelries. They wore big smiles as it wasn't everyday they were invited to the engagement of the SDM and CEO, a power couple no doubt.

But in reality it was just an event to signify Pari and Arin's promise of trust, loyalty and respect, atleast that's what Pari thought.

A light blush shade gown clung to her figure sparkling under the countless lights that hung above her head signifying the joyous event bustling below. The first half of the ceremony was closing to an end. Pari quickly scrunched the gown to see ground below as she got up to leave the hall. Despite the fatigue slowly creeping up her spine, she wanted to change into the main gown for the actual ceremony where, finally, she would see Arin.

The man fondled with the kitchen ware taking note of the men in black stationed at the corners. He tried to look as busy as possible but it wouldn't be long before he attracts the attention of fellow cooks. He quickly scurried to the wash basin right beside the door that led to the main hall. As he began washing his hands, he galnced through the tiny circular glass windows. Amidst the crowd he finally found the woman, adnored in sparkles as she descended the dress. This was his chance. He quickly held  the door knob as he glanced at the men who seem to have noticed his weird behaviour. Taking alert they rushed to grab him but it was too late.

The door busted open suprising the guests seated nearby, as the man sprinted to the front stage screaming 'move' but before half way he was roughly grabbed by two strong men as on smothered his thunderous voice. An man with a crew cut sporting a few grey hair appeared in front of him. The man instantly recognized him, Omar, his right-hand man.

His chest palpitated as he struggled helplessly. Unfazed by his muffled screams, the man calmly instructing him to be taken away to be 'dealt' with later. His knees gave away as his head hung in defeat, it was over.

"Omar" a soft yet commanding voice echoed the quite hall, as everyone looked quietly at the spectacle.

"Yes ma'am" the man straightened and turned to face Pari who stood facing the seemingly deranged man.

"What is the matter?"

"Nothing ma'am all taken care of. Please do not worry" The sudden softness in Omar's voice sent shivers down the man's throat. The situation was catching up to him. This was a foolish plan. Thinking of his impending death, bile began to rise from the pits of his stomach.

"Omar, what is the matter, who is he?" Her voice never wavered as she reintated her point.

"I am yet to ask ma'am, but I believe he was sent by others to disrupt this engagement"

"And how do you know that?"

"He was acting suspiciously according to my men, as if waiting for the right time to put on a show" Omar spat looking at the man held on his knees

"I see" Pari turned to the man who roughly gripped the man's mouth shut "let him speak". Everyone seemed taken aback.

"Ma'am, please do not concern yourself.." Pari cut him "He wants to talk to me"

"Ma'am?"

"If he had to disrupt the engagement the main event would have been ideal, besides he ran towards me. I doubt it was to hurt me as he doesn't seem to posses anything dangerous in particular."

Her mother approached Pari "What is the matter?"

"Nothing mom, just need a chat"

"Pari,  not here" she looked around eyeing the crowd frozen in their places. Sighing Pari replied

"Sheesh I forgot, take him to my room"

"But Ma'am..." another man tried to reason but

"Now" Pari commanded and left to calm the guests.

With no other choice the man was dragged out of the hall into the elevator as Omar closely followed. As he reached he called to a younger man, in his late 20s with brunette hair tousled to the side. His wide welcoming smile fell at the sight of the man as the elevator closed. He gave a knowing look to Omar and ran to the other end.

The long corridor carpeted with fur led to a master bedroom. As he approached the bodyguards stationed on either side slightly bowed their heads and opened the door. Inside Arin stood in front of the mirror straightening the perfectly fit suit as he hummed a soft tune, barely audible. Without looking back...

"What is it Sam?"

"Arin! Dr. Palentine escaped!" He practically screamed despite trying to maintain his composure.

"What when?" Arin roughly faced Sam, glaring at him. Sam wanted to cower away but there was no time to waste.

"Yesterday night"

"And you are telling me this NOW?!" Arin bellowed

"We didn't want to spoil your mood today"

Arin hands rolled into a fist as his jaw ticked

"Where.is.he?" Arin stressed every word. I couldn't afford to mess up his attire with just few minutes to go or else he would have already thrown a few punches at Sam by now. Sam noticed Arin's aura change as he felt his lungs close in on themselves, eyes lowered he replied.

"Here"
