Avery and Ben were one of the last ones to leave the feast in the Great Hall. The others had already reached the Gryffindor Common Room and were free from the worries of being suspected of being a participant in the prank.
''I wanted to ask... since I haven't gotten yet a chance to really find anything in the Library,'' Avery began.
''Hmm?''
''What is it that you can really do? Do you feel the emotions I'm feeling now or just understand them?''
Ben nodded.
''It depends, really... If it's unbelievably strong and gets to me then I feel them myself. And believe me... it's not pleasant at all, because mostly those types of feelings just get me down,''
''But then there are good cases too?'' Avery asked.
''Yes,'' Ben replied. ''basically, if I can concentrate properly then it's easier for me not to get overwhelmed. I think- I think I need to work on that if I even can... and right now, I just know what you're feeling.''
''And what is that?'' Avery asked in a light-hearted tone.
Ben chuckled, looking around.
''You're just about the right amount of confused. Doesn't bother me,'' he replied and laughed.
''Confused? I suppose I am but- that's- okay, fine, I am!'' Avery exclaimed.
''Hmmm, what about?'' Ben whispered.
The two had already reached the second-floor platform, walking up the Grand Staircase.
''I think you know...'' Avery replied quietly. ''how can I not be? With his reaction and with how... how he just walked away and left me like that. I wanted to chase after him but I couldn't...''
''If it's my opinion... I'd say Remus is really nice...''
''You're not just saying that because you can't read Bradley?'' Avery laughed.
''No!'' Ben replied, smiling. ''I genuinely know that Remus cares about you.''
Avery paused, still continuing to walk.
''And you care about him too,'' Ben continued. ''it's not fair against Bradley, you know...''
''Yes, I know... yet I really do like Bradley and he just... he keeps surprising me and taking me on random dates! I mean, he always knows what snacks to give me after class and just... he's nice,'' Avery explained.
''Oh, believe me, Remus would surprise you too,'' Ben laughed.
''What does that mean?'' Avery asked, chuckling.
Ben shook his head, knowing that he couldn't tell Avery Remus's secret. He knew Remus would want to tell her himself.
''I just mean that he's sweet too...''
