The first thing Chantal saw upon waking up and moving her head to the side was a glass of water, two pills, and a small chocolate bar. Although she was yet to wake up, she couldn't miss the fact that the glass looked freshly cold, as if some ice cubes had just melted.
Chantal reached out to the glass and gulped it halfway down. Then she took the pills, swallowing both of them at the same time. Having snatched the small chocolate bar, she hid back under the blanket and thanked Victoria quietly.
Perhaps fifteen minutes passed or so and Chantal had finished the chocolate bar and taken off the cover from her head when the door opened.
''Morning,'' Nell said casually, walking past Chantal in bed.
''Morning,'' Chantal smiled and looked at the girl with a tired look. ''everyone's out of bed already?"
''Yeah. Some people are off fighting their hangovers in the Great Hall,'' Nell replied without looking back at Chantal.
''Neat...'' Chantal huffed.
''Yeah,'' Nell said, searching for something on her bedside.
''The party was nice though. Did you enjoy it?'' Chantal wondered in a hopeful tone, asking her.
''Wasn't bad. Quite fun... but, uh, some people wondered why you and Malfoy had come back together...'' Nell replied in a suspicious voice, sparing Chantal a glance.
Chantal thanked that Nell wasn't facing her fully and rubbed her forehead in embarrassment.
''I... went to find someone and bumped into him. That's all,''
''Oh,'' was all that Nell replied. A simple short answer. Chantal could smell the awkwardness in the air.
The only following sound was Nell moving some pieces of parchment and notes around by her bedside, having had a look in her trunk as well. Chantal didn't ask what she was looking for. They weren't that close to wondering what was bothering Nell. But she found out soon.
Nell sighed happily, her hand holding a letter. She swiftly turned around and walked over to Chantal.
''This is for you,'' she handed her the letter and Chantal raised her eyebrow.
''What's th-''
''It's from Nate,'' Nell interrupted her, and Chantal's eyes shot back to the letter instead of blankly staring at Nathaniel's sister. ''He wrote me two letters, saying that this one was for you. He said you hadn't replied to him and he sounded worried... well, he just wanted to make sure you got this letter.''
Nell had explained herself and Chantal thanked her for the letter.
''I got it yesterday but didn't read it 'till this morning... so yeah...''
Nell left the room, leaving Chantal alone with the letter in her hands. It was definitely Nathaniel's writing. She sighed and opened the letter just to have Victoria enter and shut the door quietly.
''I'm awake,'' Chantal announced and Victoria smiled.
''I was coming to wake you up,'' her friend remarked and walked over to sit on her bed. ''what's that?''
''A letter from Nate,''
''Oooh,'' Victoria smiled with an intrigued look.
''Nell gave it to me,'' Chantal added.
''Oh, why?'' Victoria asked and raised her eyebrows.
''She said- said that I hadn't written back and Nate thought that maybe something was wrong,'' Chantal looked at Victoria.
