Chapter 4: Field Trip

"Um, are you ok?" Carly asked. Ash mentally sighed. So far, this day had gone horrible. "No, thank you very much. I just got told I was working with newbies and now it turns out I know the newbies." Ash said. "Um..wait...you're elite trainer we've been sent to work with on the mission?!" Matt exclaimed. "Yep." Ash replied.

"Will all Master Class students please report to the principal's office." A voice blared over the PA system, as Ash walked out of the building at the end of school. "Now what do they want?" Pikachu asked. "Maybe we're being demoted." Mew said. "Or maybe we get a prize!" Sunshine exclaimed. "For what?" Satin asked. "I dunno. Something." his sister replied. Everyone rolled their eyes.

Ash arrived at Professor Sycamore's office and walked in. Professor Sycamore was sitting at his desk. The gang was already waiting in a few seats and the Shadow Gang were grouped up against the back wall, glaring at everyone. This was the first time Ash had seen Red and Silver since the attack, and he was somewhat surprised to see they hadn't bailed. They, on the other hand, didn't seem to be fazed at all when they saw Ash come into the room.

When Matt and Carly arrived a few seconds later, they stole a guarded glance at Ash, who was trying to ignore them. Once all the student were there, Professor Sycamore stood up, addressing those in the room. "Alright. Now that you're all here, I would like to make a small announcement. There will be a week long field trip to Alola in 3 days. We are going to go to the Pokémon School on Melemele Island and study there with the students. We will be taking the trip there so we can learn more about Pokémon variants and Z-moves. If there is any reason at all you cannot attend, please notify me by tomorrow morning. Are there any questions?" Professor Sycamore said.

"Professor, where will we be staying?" May asked. "There will be a few rooms for you to stay in at the school. When we arrive you will get a tour and a list of the people you will be staying with." Professor Sycamore explained. When no one said anything else, Professor Sycamore dismissed them.

"Hey!" Matt called to Ash as he and Carly went up to him. "You have to talk to us again sometime." Matt said. "I don't have to do anything." Ash replied icily. "Oh, come on. We're supposed to be working together." Matt said. "Yeah. Please, just let us work with you." Carly said. Ash turned around. "I never asked for your help, and I don't want it, either. So just leave me alone." He turned and left, going back into the forest.

"We should follow him." Matt said, watching Ash's retreating form. "I don't know.." Carly replied. "Oh come on! Please? I really want to see where he goes. And besides, we have to find a way to get him to cooperate with us so we can work on the mission together." Matt reasoned. Finally, Carly gave in. "Lead the way."

Ash met up with the siblings half way back to their home. "What's up guys!" Sparkle exclaimed. "Oh, you know, the usual. Big field trips to Alola and whatnot." Pikachu said casually. "Ohh! Can we come too? Please?" Sparkle asked excitedly. "Sure." Ash smiled. "Yay!" Sparkle exclaimed jumping into the air. "Sounds fun." Ray commented.

Then Ash heard a slight rustling in nearby bushes. He reached out with his aura and detected two people not far behind them. He then identified them as Matt and Carly. "We've got company, guys." he sighed. Ash turned around and walked towards where the two newbies stood. "Come out. I know you're there." he said. When nothing happened, he sighed and said, "Must I force you out?" Finally, the two came out from hiding.

"How did you know?" Matt asked. "For trying to be stealthy, you two sure make a lot of noise." Ash said, annoyed. "Sorry. We just wanted to know where you were going." Carly apologized. "Fine. If you want to work with me so badly, tell me what you've got." he said. "What we've..got?" Carly asked uncertainly. Ash threw his arms up. "If you're so desperate to work together, you must at least have a plan or strategy for what you want to do!"

"Um, well, we thought we could, maybe, work that out with you?" Matt said. "Ugh. This is a waste of my time. Call me again when you have something useful to say." he turned and began to leave. "Oh, and this time, don't follow me."
