NICOLE'S P.O.V
It was kinda silent. From awkwardness. I fiddled with the books in my hands a bit. Trying to get all of what has been happening off my mind.I zipped open my binder and searched through it. I pulled out the book I was reading,'Looking For Alaska.' I flipped through the pages, a picture that I had stored in it, floating gallantly through the air onto Chandler's lap.
I reached for it, but he already had it in his hand, resting on the steering wheel. The car came to a complete stop on the side of the road as he examined it.
A boy. The age of 12. Collared shirt and jeans. I was pushing him in a swing, his smile bright as he laughed. We were both laughing.
Chandler looked at it in confusion.
"Who is this?" He asked.
"Nobody..." I muttered.
"It's somebody. A relative? Are you seeing someone else? Is that their brother?"
"No, Cha-"
"IT HAS TO BE! YOU DONT HAVE A BROTHER!" His voice raised a bit.
"CHANDLER, I-" My hands were shaking uncontrollably and tears were streaming down my face.
"WHO IS IT, NIC?" He yelled, about to rip it in half.
"CHANDLER STOP!" I screamed louder than ever, ripping it out of his hands. "ITS MY BROTHER!!!"
He stopped for a second, dried tear stains under his eyes. "What?"
"M-my brother..." I sniffled.
"You don't have a brother, though..."
"Had... I had a brother. His name was Jonathan."
"W-what happened?"
"That day..." I pointed at the picture,"He was swinging...he wanted to go higher. So, I pushed higher. 'Higher!' He yelled, so I pushed him really high. He came back and flew out of the swing. It wasn't that big of a dirt lot, a sidewalk was surrounding it. Concrete..."
