12: Desire is...learning about you

"Shall we have a walk then?"

"Hmm?" Rona is still in a trance of everything happening around her. It was like a sensory overload for her.

Mina smiled. "Can I offer to walk you around Hera Palace?"

"Oh sure yes." Rona nodded. It was time she learn more about the new place she will be living in for the rest of her life, perhaps.

Mina held onto Rona gracefully and they exited the grand tea room back onto the bright pathway. On the way, maids were already heading back to the tea room to tidy up the room. Rona was fascinated by their efficiency.

Mina smiled at the innocent girl.

As they reached the main halls of the main house, maids and staff greeted Mina and Rona politely.

"Mam'," the head of the maids greeted Mina. "Is dinner served for four tonight here?"

"Ah," she realised. She turned to Rona. "We are having our first family dinner tonight," she smiled.

Rona nodded obediently.

Mina smiled and thanked the maid.  "Nae, thank you."

The head of maids nodded and the two new madams of the household exited the main house to the broad fields spanning acres of land far.  

Suddenly Mina held Rona's hand and put it through her arm. It shocked Rona.

"Just thought we could be closer." She smiled.

Rona smiled back. The reassurance Mina gives we're immense to her. She could finally feel there was a sense of warmth in the household. At least one person.

They walked arm in arm slowly in the great gardens, away from the men, the people, the hustles in this massive Hera Palace. It was like a brief moment of ease for both birds in the cage.

"When I came to this household, I was only told to care about my husband and the household. Plus my friendship with Seokhoon just went downhill the moment I became his stepmother."

Mina confessed as she steps on the grass with her heels, gracefully, arm intertwined with Rona.

"Our duty, sad to say, is to care for the household." Mina smiled. "But you have less to worry about. I will always be your shield and backbone. These 6 years I've learnt a lot in being the madam of a big household. From each building to the smallest plantation here, I knew them all well." She laughs a little.

Even her smiles and laughs were as graceful as a swan in Rona's eyes. She was glorious.

No wonder, she would be the Madam of a great household despite her background.

Rona thought to herself, suppose that's why Joo Dan Tae had his own standards towards his wife.

As they were walking along the green pastures, Rona finally took the courage to ask.

"Mina...How... was Joo Seokhoon like?"

No matter how the marriage would turn out, Rona had to understand who the person she is going to sleep with every night be like. Whether the marriage was to turn out good or bad, she had to comply with her duty as a wife as Mina does.

She thought the last thing she could do was to learn more about the man, her husband, or perhaps somebody she might love one day.

Mina was surprised at Rona's question. She smiled happily. She was glad Rona came into Seokhoon's life. At least now, there will be someone who could care about him.
