Dirty Little Secret

Chapter 35

A month & a half later, Kristina still has no answers to what really happened to Tony. Having to put on a brave face day after day has been proving to be exhausting. Kristina wakes up in the middle of the night. She gets up & goes into the bathroom to pee.
"What the hell?", she whispers as she wipes. She turns on the light & notices blood.

On the seat, in the water, even a trail from the bedroom. She rushes to the bed & checks the sheets when a sharp, period cramping type of pain hits her pelvis.

A horrible pain she's never felt before. She groans, hunched over in pain. She grabs a pad & a fresh change of clothes. She changes quickly & heads downstairs to wake up Happy but the pain is so sharp, she almost falls down the stairs. She sits down & grips the railing.
"J.A.R.V.I.S. wake up Happy. Now. It's an emergency", she groans.
"Yes, ma'am. Waking him up now."

Happy is woken up by J.A.R.V.I.S., he leaps out of bed & rushes over to Kristina.
"You ok? What's wrong?"
"Something's wrong, hap. I'm bleeding uncontrollably. I need to go to the hospital." Happy hurries to get his sandals & he rushes out the door in only a tank top & sweatpants, holding Kristina in his arms.

He speeds to the nearest hospital. He parks the car & rushes her into the E.R. She cries out in pain as they enter. Thankfully tonight, the waiting room is empty. The doctors take her back & examine her while they ask Happy questions, assuming they're a couple. He tries his hardest to answer the questions until Kristina calls out for him.
"Happy! I need you!"

Happy rushes over but the doctor & nurses won't allow him in.
"Happy!"
"I'll be right out here, alright? Let the staff take care of you." About thirty minutes later, Happy is finally able to see Kristina. Happy comes over to her & kisses the top of her head. He pulls her in for a hug as she cries.

"I miscarried, Hap."
"What?", he asks in disbelief.
"I was approximately twelve weeks. I've been so busy with work & losing Tony that I haven't paid much attention to my period." She cries harder as they pull away.

"I'm sorry, Kristina." He grabs her hand & kisses it.
"I didn't even know. Tony didn't know. I need him here, Hap. He should be here." Happy sits on the bed with her.
"I know. I know. But I'm here for you, ok? You will not go through this alone. You have me & Genevieve. I called her. She should be here soon."

"Thank you. I don't know what I'd do without you here."
"Good thing, you never have to wonder. Try to get some sleep." He wipes her eyes.
"Can I get you anything? Coffee? Hot chocolate? Candy?"
"No. I'm fine. Can you lay with me?", she asks wiping her eyes. He smiles.
"Yeah. Scoot over." She moves over & he lies down, wrapping his arms around her. She lays her head on his chest.

She feels her tears fall again, wetting his tank top. Soon, Genevieve walks in.
"Viev." Genevieve rushes over to her & Kristina cries in her arms.
"You scared me. What happened?" They pull apart.
"I had a miscarriage."
"Oh my god. Did Tony know you were pregnant?"
"No. I didn't even know." Genevieve rubs her back.

"Thank you for bringing her & being here for her", Genevieve says to Happy.
"No need to thank me." They both rub her back. A little while after, the doctor comes in with the discharge papers. Soon, they leave the hospital. Genevieve follows them back to the mansion in her car. When they get there, Kristina is about to go upstairs but Happy stops her.
"Where are you going?"
"I have to change the bedsheets."
"I'll do it in the morning. You need to rest. You two can take my room. I'll sleep on the couch."
"No, Happy. I don't want to put you out of your room."

"You're not. Genevieve, stay with her." Genevieve nods. Kristina hugs him.
"Thank you so much."
"Don't thank me. I'm happy to do it. Now, get to bed. I'll call Obadiah in a few hours to see if he could fill in."
"Absolutely not."
"What? Why?"
"I don't trust him."

"Tony trusts him, why don't you?"
"I just don't."
"Why not?"
"I don't know. There's something about him that I don't trust. I'll go into work. Promise me you won't call him, please."
"Fine. I won't. But get to bed." Kristina & Genevieve walk to Happy's room. They get comfortable & fall asleep soon after.

A few hours later, Kristina gets up. She goes upstairs to Tony's bedroom & grabs some clothes. Happy is cleaning up the mess.
"Happy. You didn't have to do this. You're not a maid."
"I know." She kisses his cheek. She gets dressed in the bathroom then comes out. Kristina get emotional & walks back downstairs.

"Hey. I made breakfast", Genevieve says.
"Thanks." Kristina sits down.
"I know this is a stupid question but how are you feeling?"
"Like shit. I need Tony home."
"I know, honey. I'm sorry." Kristina just nods, looking sad.

"So, who's Obadiah?", Genevieve says changing the subject.
"He's Tony's business partner. Worked for his dad too."
"Why don't you trust him?" Genevieve asks as she passes Kristina a plate of waffles, bacon & eggs.

"I don't know. Ever since I met him, he gives me this weird vibe. I can't explain it. He's never been mean to me or anything like that but I don't trust him. Ok, like the day Tony went to Afghanistan, for example. I found him in his office & it looked like he was trying to snoop through his things."
"Did he know Tony was out of town?"

"Yeah. Tony told me to send an email to him letting him know about his trip. He even responded to my email."
"Maybe he forgot?"
"Maybe. But it felt....off to me." Kristina finishes up her breakfast & thanks Genevieve before leaving for work. Once they arrive, Kristina goes up to Tony's office. A couple of hours, passes by when there's a knock on the door.
"Come in", Kristina says finishing up a call.

She hangs up the phone when Obadiah walks in.
"Hey. Just wanted to check in on you. How are you feeling today?"
"I'm good. How are you?"
"I'm great. How's everything going today?"
"Pretty good so far." Kristina sends a couple of emails.
"Listen, if you ever need anything..please feel free to reach out to me."
"Of course. Thank you", she says fake smiling. He smiles, nods & exits the room.
