8 - The Bridge

Day 84

The following day I woke up, very much awake as I slept really well. Yoongi had already left but he did sleep here.

I dressed up and met everyone in the living room. Yoongi had already taken the center, so we would probably discuss the next steps.

    'okay so yesterday Namjoon and the others checked the area and it seems clear. There is a bridge which we will need to cross and that would be the goal of today.'

     'However, let's be clear, we need to be careful. We saw a very big group of The others yesterday and chances are big they are still in this area'

     'Why don't we stay in this house and wait it out?' Hoseok suggested

     'We can, but in case the Others clear out this area and check all the houses we will be here like sitting ducks. They have done it with many cities before as we all know.' 

We did know. The others would sometimes "clean out" a village by finding humans that were in hiding and terminating them. We heard those stories from people who managed to escape that we met on the way, and we have seen it once from a distance.

The image came back to me.

    'if they find us we won't stand a chance' I said 'we are severely outnumbered'

     'let's have a vote' Yoongi eventually concluded.

In the end the majority of us wanted to leave and therefore we made our way to the bridge. When we arrived I saw a long wooden bridge. It didn't look very stable and as I walked over it it was clear that it really wasn't too stable.

      'we should explode it' Namjoon suggested as soon as were were on the other side.

       'so that the others can; t follow us easily' 

        'agreed' Yoongi said and that meant that we would have a bit of a break in which Namjoon would have time to prepare his plan. Namjoon had read the books in Jins parents doomsday basement which had a lot of "survival tips and tricks" described in them. One of those was how to create your own explosives. 

After a little while he placed his creation at the start of the bridge, he had added a big fuse which he would lit. This would give him enough time to get off the bridge safely himself.

He took out his lighter, it was the one he had carried with him since the start.

I narrowed my eyes to see why it was taking such a long time, but I soon saw that the lighter wouldn't produce any fire. I could also see from my brothers body language that he wasn't calm anymore. He eventually ran our way

     'the lighter is broken, I don't know why it is not working. Do we have anything else to light it with?' 

      'We can try with rocks, like we have done before?' Yoongi suggested 'though I it will take some time, plus I need to check if I still have them in my bag'

     'Or I can take a shot at it?' Jin suggested.

We all stood in a circle

      'okay Jin let's go with that'

We all went to the opposite side of the bridge, so our side. Jin aimed his gun skilfully. He took the shot but to my fear he missed. It wasn't easy from this distance. He was the best shooter and still he missed.

and then suddenly the most horrible sound, we all stiffened.

The sound of the others

They were close.
