I opened my eyes, I definitely was confused as I stared up at the branches and leaves above me.
Where was I?
What happened?
And most importantly, why was my body aching so much?
I tried to get up but as I was in the progress of doing so all the memories came back to me
"Don't jump" the guy had said but I had done the opposite. How did I get here though? I was definitely not in the water.
Was I dead, was this heaven or hell?
No, no I didn't believe it was.
I slowly got up this time, not rushing it or something. I noticed a presence near me, sitting against another tree.
It was a girl, an Other for sure as she had no pupils and was wearing her mask, but the first girl I had encountered. I tried to get up fast and looked around for my weapon. Of course, I didn't have it with me anymore, how could I have held on to such a sword in the water when I apparently went unconscious.
I waltzed around on my legs, putting my hands in front of my face, in some sort of boxing position.
We had spent much time on self-defense classes, but the majority had been on fighting with a weapon and only a small part of those lessons was spent on fighting without any weapons.
The girl looked at me alerted. She made movements with her hands, the ones that humans would make to calm a person down, as if she wanted to tell me to calm down. But what was she thinking? That I would fall for that?
'Who are you?' I shouted, it was a desperate and probably futile attempt considering she couldn't even understand me.
She kept making those movements.
In no way made she any attempt to attack me and that was exactly what withheld me to make an attempt myself.
At some point, she was scratching her arms and my eyes diverted to them. It had these rashes on them, it looked very similar to those I sometimes saw on Yuna.
Yuna had very sensitive skin, when she was a teenager she had eczema for a period of time, luckily that disappeared but the fact she stayed sensitive to water and the weather did not.
Why were her arms like that?
and then it hit me
I was in the water
The only way I could have gotten out, while being unconscious, was that someone pulled me out of it.
She pulled me out.
I stood frozen, because the idea or the concept of an Other saving me from out of the water, and in doing so hurting themselves, seemed impossible.
But I had to acknowledge that it also seemed the most probable situation, in this case, looking at her and looking at me.
I lowered my hands which immediately seemed to ease her.
'You saved me?' I asked, still she wouldn't understand, I looked sideways in which the river was still visible, so I pointed at it and acted out as if I dragged someone out of it.
She nodded.
It seemed like a small movement but to me, this meant the first communication I had with an Other.
It was rather strange, we walked around for the day. I was planning to subtly make my way back to Yoongi but to be honest I had no clue as to where I was.
How far would I have driven off in the water?
I had no other choice than to continue walking hoping to reach some recognizable spot.
'Here, this is a pharmacy, maybe they have something for the rash' I said to the other while pointing at the building.
It was funny how I kept talking in the human language, it was as if every time I needed to remind myself she didn't understand it, or maybe it was to fill up the silence.
I ran in and when I looked back I saw she followed me.
I went through the cabinets and when I finally found the thing I was looking for I took it out and handed it to her.
'This is cream against the rash' I explained but as I did so I also acted it out with my hands. I opened the package and put some of the cream on my own arm and nudged her arms in a way she should try it.
Surprisingly she trusted me enough to follow my lead. Her eyes widened and she looked at the package. She enthusiastically nodded, I guess it eased her irritation as it was supposed to.
It was getting dark outside and a part of me wanted to get back to my group as soon as possible, and especially get back to Yoongi. But there was also a part of me that was curious and intrigued by this other.
Plus it was now dark outside and it was pretty clear to me she didn't want to hurt me. That was in contrast to the two other groups I encountered the previous days. So it seemed wise to spend the night here in this pharmacy and make a plan tomorrow to get back to Yoongi.
I wasn't sure yet, if I would find my way back to him, how to introduce my new companion but something made me trust her.
I was awoken by the Other who was shaking me awake. It was clear she was in distress. Before I could ask her why, I heard the voice of an Other and it wasn't her.
In the meantime she pushed me behind the counter, in an attempt to making me hide.
The door opened and someone entered the pharmacy, next thing that happened was a conversation between two others, of which one was the girl. It was calm at first but pretty quickly it seemed to become tense.
I suddenly felt a presence nearby and as I looked up I saw an Other looking over the counter down at me. I got back up my feet and I recoiled.
I recognized the guy that had shouted at me on the bridge, their leader.
The girl ran over and stood in front of me, sheltering me from the guy.
They were arguing for sure, I mean I didn't understand a word of what they were saying but it didn't seem like a very friendly conversation.
At some point, it seemed to have come to an end and both of them turned to me.
I waited in anticipation of what was going to happen next.
The guy took out the little device again, the one I saw he used when I jumped off the bridge. He said something in determination and soon after the little box spoke
'You're coming with us'
The girl on the other hand looked a bit apologetically but she nodded as if she wanted to tell me to agree.
