I came back into the dressing room, Harry looked slightly disgruntled, or anxious or something.

“How was you aunt?” he asked me.

“She was happy that I cam clean,” I lied through my teeth, he nodded.

“Do you want me to take you home?” He asked me, I gave him a nod; hopefully I would be able to put him off on the way.

We drove in silence until we reached my hotel.

“Do you want me to stay here?” he asked me, I shook my head.

“No, I’m fine, I’m tired.” Harry nodded and walked out.

I sat on the corner of my bed, why? Why me? Darren said this could end it all, would it be worth it? Sex. That is what he had asked for. Just once and then I could go and he would hand himself into the police, I didn’t doubt that he would do it anyway with or without my consent.

It was 11pm when I got off my bed and picked up my bag, I walked into the car park, the night was cold. I took out my phone and dialled the number for a taxi firm; they said they would be here soon.

I stood in the cold in my jacket. I felt someone come up behind me; I turned but not quickly enough, whoever it was grabbed me tightly by the waist and pulled me back behind the building.

“Stop it!” I screamed and writhed, but the attacker didn’t budge. Time was passing too fast, this wasn’t Darren attacking me, Darren would have been much more skilled in his attack, this person had a clumsy quality to their fighting.

No, I had to get away from this person, if I was late, if something happened then Darren would have Harry killed in a second.

I broke free of the attacker and went streaking down the street; I knew roughly where Darren’s apartment was, in and out, it would be over soon enough.

Suddenly he was in front of me, no, it wasn’t Darren it was Harry.

“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?” he roared. I backed away from him into an alley way.

“Harry, I, I...” I stuttered, he looked so hurt.

“Why didn’t you tell me he was texting you?” he demanded, I didn’t say anything, “I heard you and him on the phone.”

“How did you hear him?” I whispered.

“I knew it wasn’t you aunt.” He said.

“You eavesdropped on me?” I said mortified.

“This is what you’re on now, January you gave him permission to, permission to…” he looked away, he was so close to me now.

“Harry I did this for us.” I whispered.

“Did it for us?” he said, “what you should have done is tell me what was going on, I told you I would keep you safe, I made you a promise and you decided to not believe.”

“Harry I have to go,” I said trying to push past him. He caught me by the crook of my arm, reminding me of the time when he had first seen my bruises.

“You can’t expect me to let you go to him, knowing what you’re going to do and why you’re going to do it.” He said, “what kind of monster do you think I am.”

“I just want him to leave us alone,” I told him, “this is the only way I can do that.”

“Are you stupid enough to think that he’ll give up after this?” he asked me grabbing me by the shoulders.

“I have to try!” I cried at him, marching past him.

“No!” he grabbed me and threw me over his shoulder like he was lifting me from a burning building.

“No!” I cried, “I’m sick of everyone trying to save me.”

I shouted until we got to his car, I tried to resist him, but he pushed me into the car easily, and got in the driver’s side. He locked the doors.

“Harry I have to do this,” I whispered, Harry didn’t answer me, he just kept driving, we reached his apartment, he got out of the car and came round to the passenger side and opened the door.

“Get out,” he told me, his voice hard and cold.

“Harry I haven’t done anything wrong,” I told him, “I was doing it for us.”

He unbuckled the seat belt and put his arm around my waist and pulled me our of the car, he wrapped his arms around me in a tight hug.

“Don’t ever give into him baby,” he whispered in my ear, “not for me.”

He lead me into the house, I checked my watch, Harry went over to the counter and poured himself a small glass of scotch. He looked at it for a minute until he picked it up and poured it down the drain.

“I will not lower myself to his level,” he whispered.

“Harry, I didn’t think I had a choice,” I whispered.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked from the kitchen.

“I was afraid for you,” I admitted, “I didn’t want you to get hurt.”

“He didn’t think you would go through with it,” he told me.

I looked up, “what do you mean?”

“He called me, he knew you were on your way,” he paused, “he was going to kill you…when…when it was over.”

“Harry I didn’t…” I started.

“No, you didn’t.” he came over to me and clasped my hands in his, “you never will know with him okay?”

I looked down, “Look at me,” he whispered, “don’t do something like this okay?” I nodded, “ever again, because I don’t care if you leave me, or if you leave the country or the planet, but I couldn’t live in a world were you didn’t exist, I would give everything up for you.”

I drove her home at about three and walked towards her door, I couldn’t believe she thought that he would end it. There was only one way that he was going to end it and I knew what way it would be done.

I got back into my car and my phone was already ringing, it was him.

“Nice Harry, nice.” I heard his evil voice.

“You’re sick in the head, you tricked her, how do I know you’re not trying to trick me?” I demanded.

“Are you going to take that risk?” he asked me, I made no reply.

“You have her heart, now break it.”
